An awful restaurant experience normally consists of bland, overpriced food, a ghastly waiter, and a ketchup shortage.

But, if you've ever experienced any of these things, believe us, they're just tiny hiccups compared to what one Texas woman reportedly went through.

Alisha Kent Norman was all settled in to watch the Women's World cup at Buffalo Wild Wings in Los Angeles this week when a giant rat allegedly plunged from the restaurant's ceiling straight towards her, The Mirror reports.

On Thursday afternoon, the science teacher posted a picture of the rat on her table - which was alive when it fell but presumably died when it hit the surface - to social media, asking: "...really LA?"

Writing on Facebook, the 42-year-old lamented her horror, typing: "So what do you do when a rat falls from the ceiling onto your table......???????.....really LA? I was just trying to watch the soccer game?".

The customer, who was on holiday from Houston, Texas ahead of her 43rd birthday this weekend, has claimed the Buffalo Wild Wings chain manager told her that construction was to blame for the incident.

Speaking to NBC News, Alisha - who hadn't had the chance to order anything when the situation occurred - said: "I knew the rat was going to be injured because it hit like a Mack truck. You could hear something come down."

She added that after she requested help from a manager, a man came with two plates, picked up the rat and "dumped it in a bag".

"It was terrible. It was disgusting," she said, adding that she received a free meal for her less-than-desirable lunchtime experience.

The restaurant didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
