An Arkansas family has been left "traumatized" after finding their missing puppy hanging by a noose near their home.

The incident happened on April 16, two days after the 10-month-old beagle-mix named Chevy went missing. Having exhausted every other option, KFSM-TV reports, Paula McNeil and her children investigated their local woods.

In the video below, McNeil recounts the horrific sight they discovered:

"It's frightening to think that there is somebody close by here that could do this to a dog," McNeil told Fox 5. "It's very scary to think what's in that person's mind."

The concerned mother said that her children were heartbroken by Chevy's untimely death.

Now, McNeil is extremely concerned not only for the safety of her children but the family's five cats.

"Think about it as if it was your dog and if it was your children that are traumatized and horrified, afraid for our other animals as well. We have five cats that live outside," McNeil said.

The incident has been reported to the local Benton County Sheriff's Office who are now investigating.

If the person responsible is found, they could be facing felony animal abuse charges.

This news comes days after a woman was arrested for dumping three-day-old puppies in a dumpster at Coachella.

"It's heinous," McNeil said of Chevy's death. "It's pure evil and whoever did this needs to be brought to justice."

The family is now offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information who can help to solve this crime, 4029 News reports.
