Woman with a headache finds a spider living in her ear
What kind of creatures can live in the human ear? The question is as destabilizing as it is remarkable. After all, anything capable of surviving in an ear canal is a pretty exceptional creature. In total darkness, with nothing around but a thin tunnel, nothing to eat but wax, no hope, no vision...these spiders persist.
They have way more survivability than we do. And one patient in India, known only as Lekshmi L., experienced it first-hand. She had a headache for a long time, only to find in the hospital that the cause was a literal spider living in her ear canal. For how long? We don't know. But presumably a long, long while, enough time to cause a chronic headache.
Dr. Santosh Shivaswamy noted:
“It is common to see emergency room visits due to the presence a foreign object in the ear and it takes a simple procedure to remove the object. However, when a living insect makes its way inside a human ear, the patient’s anxiety makes it difficult to continue the procedure. It was a rare to see a live spider moving inside someone’s ear canal.”
The patient, Lekshmi, said:
“I was terrified, as I could feel the movement of a creature in my ear. The acute earache followed by sharp pains suffocated me. I couldn’t think of anything and was petrified when the doctor confirmed the presence of a spider in my ear.”
Sounds utterly horrifying. Just in time for Halloween, right?
