It's no secret that the Kardashians have distanced themselves from Caitlyn Jenner over the last year or so.

In that time, Kim, Kylie, and Khloe have all had children, Kris has been keeping up with her momager ways, and Kendall and Kourtney have most likely been investing vast portions of each day into their Instagram feeds. And Caitlyn hasn't been present for any of it.

Instead, she has remained out of the spotlight for a while, appearing in occasional interviews and popping up on chat shows every now and then to give her two cents about one thing or another - but, compared to how public the rest of the KarJenners are, she's basically faded into the background of celebrity life.

In a recent interview, however, the former athlete opened up about why she is no longer in regular contact with her daughters - and it all started with her autobiography.

Caitlyn's memoir, titled The Secrets of My Life, caused a stir amongst the Kardashian family after it claimed that Kris Jenner knew Caitlyn was trans when they met.

"[Kris] insists that she was taken by surprise by my ultimate transition to Caitlyn, which obviously means in her mind that she did not know enough," she wrote. "On Keeping Up With The Kardashians she shed copious tears in coming to grips with it. Given what she saw, the whole reaction seemed a little puzzling then and seems puzzling now."

Meanwhile, Kris has firmly denied that she ever had any inclination that Caitlyn wanted to transition, and said she was unaware of her then-husband's cross-dressing, gender dysphoria, and breasts (which she got removed around the time Kendall was born).

So, with Caitlyn claiming one thing, and Kris claiming another, a small feud developed, and it's been snowballing ever since.

To make matters worse, Caitlyn had already been feeling alienated by that point, as her political opinions had put her at odds with other members of the LGBTQ community. In 2016, the trans community turned on her after she expressed her support for Donald Trump and appeared ignorant about many issues which affect transgender individuals - particularly trans women of color.

"I got the trans community out there bashing on me, I got the Kardashians out there bashing on me," she said in an interview with Broadly. "All I do is sit here in the house and try to stay out of trouble."

So, really, Caitlyn is keeping her distance from her family in order to maintain a peaceful lifestyle. She's already said all she had to say in her book (perhaps too much), and now there's nothing much more she can do to argue her case.

However, she also continues to speak fondly of her kids, and says that a lot of the distance between them is simply down to life getting in the way.

"I spend a lot of time by myself here in the house," she said. "I have a lot of children, but sometimes just because of circumstances, maintaining a close relationship with your kids is very tough. They all have lives. They’ve all moved on."

She continued: "We’re just human beings; we’re going to be here for a very short time. We come and we go and at the end, when it’s all said and done, hopefully your family is going to be there."

Hopefully, the Kardashians will patch things up with Caitlyn soon, and the family can put their differences behind them.
