Jennifer Lopez reveals the secret to how she still looks so young

Jennifer Lopez is a rare specimen who appears to have defied nature and doesn't show any signs of ageing. Sure, she follows some no-brainer healthy lifestyle commandments like getting plenty of sleep, drinking water, doing morning meditation, lots of exercise and eating mostly vegetables and protein – but that can't be all, can it?

I mean, she does NOT look 48...

She looks more like 28 than anything, with her flawless, wrinkle-free skin, killer bod and full, healthy hair. How does she do it?! SOMEONE TELL ME.

A while ago, J.Lo posted a video on Instagram of her and her sister, who is trying to convince her to come out partying on a girls night out. Unrelentless, the superstar is having none of it and blinks into the camera while her sister says, "When I go out drinking with my friends, it’s the best day of my week."

"She’s trying to convince me why I should start drinking," J.Lo says while looking at the camera.

So is that it? Is the great secret just that she doesn't... drink?

It's not the first time the star has said she abstains from alcohol, once telling InStyle, "I think that ruins your skin. Of course, during celebratory toasts, everybody's like, 'You can't toast with water!' So I'll toast with alcohol and just take a sip."

According to dermatologist Jill Waibel, alcohol can definitely affect your skin.

“The consumption of alcohol is one of the most common triggers for rosacea flare-ups, causing skin to be inflamed, red, and sensitive,” she told Women's Health.

But long-term damage from alcohol comes from dehydration, as well as sugar in drinks like margaritas or other cocktails, as it can age your skin faster and bring out wrinkles. Waibel says hydration is key to healthy skin.

Jennifer has mentioned before that she drinks a lot of water and has also revealed that along with her no-alcohol rule, she also avoids caffeine and cigarettes. Plus, she uses a daily SPF moisturiser and stays out of the sun as much as she can.

“I never took sun when I was younger. I wasn’t a drinker, I didn’t smoke,” she told the Today show. “But I feel like at the core, it’s like how you feel inside and who you are inside kind of shows on your face.”

It all makes sense and we've heard it all before – but how does she manage to stay so young-looking when plenty of other people stick to the same kind of regime?

Even LA-based facialist Shani Darden – who has worked on other fresh-faced celebs like Jessica Alba, Chrissy Teigen and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley – is stumped.

“I mean, want to know what Jennifer is doing,” she told the Daily News. “I would imagine she must be really on it, as far as getting facials and taking care of her skin.”

But another skin professional, Arielle Kauvar, a clinical professor of dermatology at the NYU School of Medicine, is among others who think the singer "likely" has additional help.

“Obviously she takes very good care of her skin, and all the usual preventive maintenance things are important,” she explained to The News. “But it’s unusual to not have any wrinkles or expression lines for people over 40 — no matter how well they took care of their skin — without having any Botox or filler injections.”

While there are many benefits to not drinking alcohol and having a healthy lifestyle, I'm with the professionals who say that can't just be it. But maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe, J.Lo has really been dealing with a swamp witch who's sold her an elixir for eternal youth all along.
