Nicolas Cage humiliated in public after restaurant flirting goes horribly wrong
Nicolas Cage is one of the most bizarre actors working in Hollywood today. There is no consensus on whether he is a great actor or a terrible one, as he has been nominated for two Academy Awards, winning one of them, while also churning out what feels like dozens of terrible movies each year.
If there's one thing you can count on, it's that he puts his all into a performance, with an insane energy and strange facial expressions that have lead to a plethora of material for memes across the internet. In real life, he isn't exactly living an ordinary life either. After all, this is the man who owns a nine-foot-tall stone pyramid that he intends to be buried in, and only eats animals that are "dignified" when they mate.
But even larger-than-life celebrities like Nicolas Cage can face ordinary problems from time to time. While his fame and fortune is likely to make most social situations a complete breeze, there are some awkward situations that affect everybody. If you have ever flirted with someone only to rebuffed, you will relate to what happened to him at a sushi restaurant earlier this week.
Cage was previously married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001 and to Lisa Marie Presley for only four months in 2002. His recent marriage, an 11-year relationship with Alice Kim, came to an end in January last year. Single and back on the market, Cage is likely looking for love - and where better to look than an LA sushi bar?
The 53-year-old actor was at Sushi Gen in Los Angeles in Tuesday, dining alongside Back to the Future and American Gods star Crispin Glover. The two of them, who had previously worked alongside one another in 1981's The Best of Times, were having sushi, sake, and beer, when Cage took a particular interest in a woman sat nearby.
As you can seen in these images, captured by another patron in the restaurant, Cage introduced himself to the woman, shaking her hand and beginning to flirt with her. She looked surprised at seeing the star, let alone having a full-on conversation with him, but it alas, it wasn't meant to be.
Unfortunately for Cage, the woman's partner then arrived, sitting between the actor and his wife. Apparently, he acted cordially enough, but glared at the actor in a way that made the awkwardness palpable to everyone in the room.
The expression on the actor's face is one of rejection and abject awkwardness, something we have all experienced at some point in our lives.
Meanwhile, his former co-star sat beside him, barely controlling his laughter at his friend's discomfort.
Cage then reportedly left the restaurant soon afterwards, waving to his co-star as he left, and no doubt desperate to get away. Want one more weird fact about the actor? He and his now ex-wife had a son together, now 11 years old, who he named Kal-El, after Superman's real alien name. Never change, Mr. Cage.
