Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have become the latest relationship casualty of 2017

Last year, many of respected musicians, actors, and other beloved celebrities unfortunately passed away, leading many of us to blame the year itself for its bad luck. Now, it appears that 2017 may have a similar, yet far less tragic curse: the death of the celebrity relationship.

It feels like it was only recently that we were mourning the end of Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, a couple who married in 2009 and had a child together. Fortunately it seems to have been an amicable split, but that didn't stop their fans from being devastated.

Now, it looks like another couple have followed the same course, according to Us Weekly. Rachel Bilson, perhaps best known for her role on The O.C, and Hayden Christensen, unfortunately known for his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, have broken up after being together for a decade.

The two met on the set of the 2008 film Jumper, in which they both starred, and were engaged by December that year. They have been quiet about their relationship, with no public statements confirming they were together until Bilson was seen wearing an engagement ring. According to a statement in August 2010, they called off their engagement, but got back together three months later.

They have been together ever since, making it over a decade that the two have been a couple. In October 2014, their daughter was born, who they named Briar Rose. According to Christensen, the name came from their mutual love for Disney. "There's a Disney reference there," he explained on an appearance on Home & Family in August 2015, "The original Sleeping Beauty is called Briar Rose. Rachel - we both love Disney - but Rachel especially was very keen on the name".

"I have this little angel in my life now," he said at the time, "Rachel and I are so thrilled". In keeping with their private way they have treated their relationship, the couple support the No Kids Policy, which aims to prevent the children of celebrities from being photographed without the parents' consent.

According to an inside source from Us Weekly, the couple are "completely, officially done". They have been "on the outs for a couple of months" and now live apart, with Bilson living in L.A. and Christensen in Toronto. This may come as a shock to fans, who have seen them post loving messages to one another on social media throughout their relationship.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan in 2013 Bilson opened up about their relationship:

"I'm a really good girlfriend - I always put all that first in my life. I'm definitely the person who would make him his favorite dinner to come home to. I love to cook, so we make dinner at home a lot and watch movies"

It just goes to show that you never really know what's going on in private relationships, even when the couple in question are in the public eye.
