Sofia Vergara's modelling headshot from 25 years ago proves she hasn't aged a day

Sofia Vergara has come a long way in the last 25 years. She was ranked as the 32nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes in 2014, but things weren't always so easy. In 1998, when she was 26, her older brother was killed during an attempt to kidnap him, leading to Vergara and her family leaving her home country of Columbia behind for Miami, Florida. Then, only two years later, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

With a combination of surgery, radioiodine therapy and medication, she made a full recovery from the disease, and her life completely turned around. In fact, within a decade she would be earning millions each year.

Before her career hit these highs, she started off by hosting two television shows for Spanish-language television network Univisión in the late 1990s, and appearing in a Pepsi commercial for Latin America. Eventually we saw her on the big screen, starring in English language movies such as Four Brothers, New Year's Eve and Hot Pursuit.

But likely the role we all know her best for is as Gloria in Modern Family. Her role as the enthusiastic and hot-tempered mother bagged her four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards and seven Screen Actors GUild Awards. By 2012 she was the top-earning actress on US television with $19 million a year, holding the title in both 2013 and 2016 too (earning $43 million in the latter). On top of that, she was ranked as the 32nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes in 2014.

She is now 45, but she doesn't look it one bit. But she can still shock us with her throwback Thursday picks, as she did this week with a now-25-year-old photo of herself. She posted a modelling headshot from all the way back in 1992, and her fans went wild for it:

Yet Vergara has warned people against trying to look younger, rather than accentuating the way they look as they get older. In August, she explained how she felt about being middle-aged:

"I’m 45. Even if you want to, at this time in your life, you can’t be perfect. It’s not that you hate it, or that you’re upset about it, but it is our reality. We’re changing. I see it happening to me."

"I want to look my age, but I want to look great. I think if you are obsessed with this ‘I want to look younger’ thing, you’re going to go crazy. People say, 'Oh, you look like you’re in your twenties.' Well, it’s not true. Our skin is different. I had never thought of the word 'pore,' then I’m like, 'S**t! What do I do with these?'"

Apparently the secret to Vergara looking so young is down to high-intensity low-impact workouts. "We do lots of squats and deadlifts and lunges," her trainer explained her routine when talking to People Magazine "She's really strong!"

Hopefully, we'll all look as glamorous as Sofia does by time we hit our mid-forties.
