If there's any celebrity out there who's winning social media, it's JK Rowling. Today, Rowling is one of the wealthiest and most influential women alive and has the remarkable distinction of being the first writer to become a billionaire through writing alone. She's certainly come a long way from the days when she and her youngest child were living on food stamps.

As if the British author wasn't famous enough for creating the award-winning and bestselling Harry Potter series, she's also regarded by many of her avid fans as the Queen of Twitter, thanks to her witty repartee and amazing put-downs. Yes, racist thugs, trolls and misogynists have all learned to tread carefully when it comes to Rowling's Twitter account and there's probably nobody better than her at delivering a 280 character smackdown. To prove her skills, we've collated some of the best examples of her comeback tweets here for you to enjoy.

1. When she stood up for Madonna

Back in 2015, after a performance at the Brit awards, Madonna accidentally tumbled over on stage at the O2 Arena after a cape she was wearing got caught. She was roundly mocked for the pratfall. However, Rowling was quick to leap to the diva's defence, and shared her support for Madonna with a hashtag that was tailor-made for the situation.

2. When she had a go at Trump

Rowling has never been much of a fan of President Donald Trump, so when this image of him, looking extremely downcast while speaking to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, emerged on social media, Rowling was quick to provide an appropriate caption, stating: "'Mommy was mean to me and I don't wanna hold her hand no more.'" Trump supporters (as usual) were not amused by her mockery.

3. This clapback against Piers Morgan

If there's one person whom Rowling seems to like even less than Trump, it's British broadcaster Piers Morgan. The two have harboured a long and protracted feud on social media for quite some time, and when Morgan appeared to be getting in bed with Trump, Rowling literally roasted him with a reference to her own books. However, that didn't shut him up for long and their arguing still continues to this day.

4. This argument over penis hats

When one Twitter user appeared to take offence to activists at a women's rally wearing vagina-shaped hats, Rowling replied that penis-shaped hats would be acceptable. Unsurprisingly, he didn't take this fashion advice on board.

5. On free speech

After one of Rowling critics expressed the opinion that children's fantasy authors shouldn't be allowed to have any kind of political agency, Rowling was quick to admonish him, and provided him with a quick lesson in the terms of free speech. I guess this guy must have been a death eater or something.

6. When she stood up for Scottish MP Mhairi Black

JK Rowling is no friend of the Scottish National Party and apparently voted for Scotland to remain part of the United Kingdom in the Independence Referendum. However, she was quick to defend their youngest minister Mhairi Black, who became a minister at the age of 20, from criticism, and expressed her admiration for Black's incredible achievement.

7. When she took down this Serena Williams critic

When a misogynistic Twitter troll criticised women's tennis player Serena Williams for her body shape, stating that she "was built like a man", Rowling was quick to point out just how stupid this statement really was, and shared a picture of Serena looking pretty damn curvy in a hot red dress. Yup, she certainly looks feminine to me.

8. This genius life advice

When a disaffected Twitter user asked Rowling for a sense of direction, she replied that they should pursue a career or interest that makes them happy ... as long as it doesn't involve random murders. Well, I can't say that I disagree with that, to be honest.

9. Her rebuke to comedian Ross Noble

When British comedian Ross Noble shared an image of himself as a youth, with long and stringy platinum blonde hair, he pointed out that his slight resemblance to Draco Malfoy made him an ideal Slytherin. However, Rowling herself thought that he was trying too hard to be edgy and sorted him into Hufflepuff instead. Well, if she says so then it must be true.

10. This motto, which sums it all up

It's fair to say that, what with all the trolls who seem to make it their mission to annoy her, Rowling isn't beloved by everyone on social media. However, this inspiring life advice shows that she's happy to take this in her stride and retain her own independence.

But this isn't the first time that JK Rowling has dazzled us enough to write an article all about her. Check out her inspiring response to fan complaints over the portrayal of Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
