7 much-hyped celebrity marriages that only lasted less than a year

In normal life, marriages come and go, but do you have many friends whose marriages haven't lasted even a year? It's certainly rare to see a union not make it 365 days; however, in Hollywood, this has happened over and over again, with dozens of A-listers going their separate ways mere months after declaring those all-important vows.

That's right, it seems a lot of celebrities just can't seem to hold down a marriage for longer than a year, with the pressures of commitment often getting far too much for them. Join us as we delve into the ins and outs of painstakingly short celebrity romances...

1. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray: Five months

Their characters on One Tree Hill didn't end up together, and neither did Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray, with the actress filing for an annulment just five months after getting hitched. The reason? Rumours swirled that Chad had cheated on her with Paris Hilton, but no one really knows for sure, with Sophia recently claiming "everybody’s been 22 and stupid. And it was not a thing I actually really wanted to do."

2. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito: Four months

Jennifer Esposito was married to Bradley Cooper for four months, with the aftermath getting vicious. The former Blue Bloods star seemingly referred to her ex as "funny, smart, cocky, arrogant and a master manipulator" in a later book, adding that her former beau had a "mean, cold side" and his personality "could flip on a dime".

3. Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas: Two months

After just six weeks of dating, Drew Barrymore reportedly proposed to Jeremy in a Hollywood back alley in 1994 when she was just 19. Three hours late the two were married by a clairvoyant minister, but the union wasn't to last, with the pair filing for divorce just two months later.

4. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries: 72 days

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries married in a lavish ceremony, which was broadcast on Keeping Up with the Kardashians in 2011. However, 72 days later, the TV reality star filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The pair's statements on the split differed vastly, with Kim saying that they remained friends and wished each other the best, but her then-husband not wanting to let things go. Kris said: "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

5. Aaliyah and R. Kelly: Three months

Before her tragic death in a plane crash in 2001, rumours circulated about a secret underage marriage between Aaliyah and R. Kelly. If it did happen, she would have been 15 and the singer 27. It was allegedly annulled by her parents after three months.

6. Eminem and Kim Mathers: Four months

Every Eminem fan knows all about his tumultuous relationship with Kim Mathers. The couple's first marriage lasted two years, but when they tried to give it another go, it was just two months before they succumbed to the same fate. "There was a lot of sadness about why this didn’t work out. They’ve been together for 17 years," Kim's attorney said at the time. "They’re life-long friends, lovers, have been husband and wife, they’re raising children together… It’s not the end and it’s not over between them.."

7. Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen: Eight months

Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen spent eight months in holy matrimony but filed for divorce in 2010. Talking to New York Magazine later in 2014, Moss claimed the marriage was “traumatic” and said: "One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, 'He's so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.' To me that sums it up."

So, that list was fun and all, but all of these divorces are a bit depressing, right? I know exactly what will cheer you up - Justin Timberlake's quotes about wife Jessica Biel will make you believe in love all over again. You are welcome.
