In May 2016, Kim Kardashian was honoured with the 'Break the Internet' award at the 20th annual Webby Awards. Taking to the stage, she uttered the now infamous sentence: "Nude selfies until I die."
She then gave the crowd the peace sign, and peaced out.
It's fair to say, even if she hadn't said this phrase, which quickly spread across the internet, that Kim Kardashian is the Queen of selfies. She definitely takes a lot of them, and makes a lot of money in doing so. In fact, she has taken so many selfies that she ended up publishing a 352-page book of them in 2015, titled 'Selfish'.
On Amazon, Kim K's selfie photography is described in pretty flowery language:
"Widely regarded as a trailblazer of the "selfie movement" a modern-day self-portrait of the digital age Kim has mastered the art of taking flattering and highly personal photos of oneself. For the first time in print, this book presents some of Kim s favorite selfies in one volume from her favorite throwback images to current ultra-sexy glam shots and provides readers with a behind-the-scenes look into this larger-than-life star."
This leads to some great feedback in the reviews. While many are positive, such as one user who wrote: "It cured my blindness, Kim is indeed a saint and better than Jesus," there are some less enthralled by the reality TV star.
"Got it from a 'Friend' who wanted to play a joke on me...utterly rubbish," one wrote. "Tried to donate to charity shop in my area and the lady refused taking it! It's gone straight to the bin right after!"
However, it seems that Kim K has had to lay off on the selfies, after being told to do so by her doctor. In a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she was told to give her wrist a break from the strain of taking selfies all day long. This was a bit too much for Kim, so she decided to recruit a selfie assistant to help her out instead. Choosing a woman named Paxy from the production crew, it looks like she's going to be getting a little help with the endeavour.
In the clip, Kim tells Kris and Khloé that she can't take selfies as she has forgotten her break, then adds, "Paxy, will you come over here and help me?"
"The doctor says I can only hold my phone like this," she explains. "So, I'm having Paxy take my pics so I can rest my hands." (Note Paxy's expression as she walks away, shaking her head in disbelief.)
Kris seemed pretty interested in the idea of a selfie assistant. "It'll protect Kim's hand without missing a beat on social media," she said. "I'm definitely gonna poach Paxy to be my selfie assistant."
They should be careful though, if Paxy starts getting a lot of Instagram fame, she'll start looking for a selfie assistant of her own...
