Adele set to land her first film role in 'Oliver!' remake

Adele seems to be one of those celebrities who can't do much wrong. She is supremely talented, with her voice being one of the most recognisable across the world, and she also seems like a genuinely lovely woman.

If you watch any interview with Adele, including her legendary carpool karaoke with James Corden, she comes across as a down-to-earth girl, despite her staggering wealth and fame; and she has one of the greatest laughs of all time (seriously, go and find it).

However, while we mainly know Adele as the iconic singer whose voice has wowed audiences for nearly a decade, it looks like she might be heading for a drastic change of career.

According to The Sun, Adele is in talks to play Nancy in the new film adaptation of Oliver! The singer, 29, from London, has apparently been approached by film chiefs who are remaking the classic musical from 1968 and want the superstar to be part of the cast.

Back in June last year, Adele hinted that she was done with touring and this role could see her begin a new career into the world of acting. In a message to her fans last year, Adele wrote:

“So this is it after 15 months on the road and 18 months of 25 we are at the end."

"Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn’t suit me particularly well. I’m a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things. Plus, I’m dramatic and have a terrible history of touring. Until now that is!

"I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favourite artists have had on me live.

"And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don’t know if I’ll ever tour again and so I want my last time to be at home."

A source close to the star, who is mum to four-year-old Angelo, said that she is seriously considering the change of career:

"It would be a major part for her and she’s seriously considering it.

"She’s talked about Angelo being her number one priority and she sees this as a role that he could appreciate too. It would be a new challenge for her but one she would definitely be up for."

The film is being produced by Working Title Films and Sir Cameron Mackintosh, who worked together on the 2012 film revival of the legendary musical, Les Miserables. It's not Adele's first foray into the world of film, with the singer having previously penned the soundtrack for the 2012 James Bond film, Skyfall. However, it would represent her first acting role.

In the original movie, Nancy is the kind-hearted prostitute and lover to the brute, Bill Sikes. It would be very interesting to see Adele singing the iconic "As Long As He Needs Me" from the 1968 version.

While some singers would find it hard making the switch from the stage to the screen, if there's one woman you would back to be able to do it, it would be Adele.
