For all intents and purposes, 2018 has not been the best year for love. Tristan Thompson cheated on Khloé Kardashian; Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux called it quits on their two-year marriage, and Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced that they were separating after almost 12 years of being together.

But before love was officially rendered terminal, we had some last minute entries that swayed the vote. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend welcomed their second child, Miles, in May, and after the whirlwind romance to end all whirlwind romances, Ariana Grande got engaged to Pete Davidson, and thereby made "big d*ck energy" the viral catchphrase of 2018.

But things are never simple when it comes to the romantic proclivities of the rich and famous. Case in point: things got awkward when Amanda Seyfried reunited with her ex-boyfriend, Dominic Cooper for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, as the actress's husband, Thomas Sadoski, wasn't pleased about it at all.

Amanda and Dominic had an on-and-off relationship for about three years after meeting on the set of 2008's Mama Mia! The 32-year-old has previously asserted that falling for Dominic was "one of the easiest things in the world" as they were both "put in a situation where you have to make out with each other. It’s easy for things to get carried away".

Flash-forward to 2018, and Amanda's been married to fellow actor Thomas Sadoski for a year now, and they have a young daughter together. Naturally, Thomas experienced a little jealously upon hearing that his wife would be reuniting with her former flame in a romantic role.

"I think he has the same kind of issues that I would have if we were hanging out with his ex-girlfriend from long ago," Amanda asserted when speaking to The Mirror.

"I assume everyone’s in love with Tommy because I’m in love with him. I assume that everybody sees him the way I do. I’d guess he assumed Dominic is in love with me the way he’s in love with me. And it’s just not the case. It’s sweet. I’d rather he be jealous than completely fine with it. He’s been great. He’s very supportive and he loves this movie, and [he and Dominic] got along absolutely fine when we were shooting."

Amanda and Dominic have remained on good terms since they split back in 2010, and accordingly, neither was nervous about returning for a sequel. "I think it will be fine working with Amanda again," Dominic said in an interview with The Times last year before production began. "I haven't spoken to her for a while, but we always remained friends. Though it'll be odd, gazing into each other's eyes and singing an ABBA song."

Likewise, Amanda is open about the fact that she still cares for her ex-boyfriend. "He'll always be in my life, regardless of what his girlfriends or future wife think," she disclosed to Elle in 2013. "I'm never going to be with a guy that can't deal with my friendship with him."

It appears that you can remain friends with an ex, after all!
