If there's a pair of celebrities I simply cannot envision ever being in the same room, it's Ariana Grande and Piers Morgan.

One is perhaps the biggest pop star around at the moment, recovering from surviving a terrorist attack and a broken engagement to dominate the music world, and the other is a news presenter more than twice her age, best known for picking arguments on Twitter, television and anywhere else someone has the temerity to express a belief or an opinion.

What would they talk about?

Whatever it is, they must have found some common ground, because Grande and Morgan recently went out to dinner and settled their differences, and maybe - just maybe - started the long and arduous path toward becoming... friends?

But first, a little bit of context. Piers Morgan tweeted to his 6.5 million followers: "Thank u for a great night @ArianaGrande," throwing the internet into meltdown for a second.

Ariana Grande replied in kind, adding: "thank u for some laughs and some v productive conversation ! it was nice bumping into u !" adding the hashtag #FutureFeministPiers before explaining the situation to an understandably confused fan.

"Well............ we bumped into each other," Grande explained. "At a restaurant. And I decided to sit with him and we spoke for a while. I think some progress was made! Turns out face to face discussions are a bit kinder and gentler, even if you do indeed disagree."

Still, that didn't stop Grande's - and Morgan's - fans from freaking out over the encounter. "You're 73 years older than her calm it," said one concerned tweeter, while another commenter might need to get their mind out of the gutter: "Ahhh nice to see a lovely tweet about a man in his 60s insinuating he's just boned a teenager."

"Are u hacked why," tweeted one very confused Ariana Grande fan on her reply to Morgan's original tweet, while quickfire tweets of "plot twist" and "girl what’s going on" imply that all of her fans are equally out of the loop with what's going on.

So, Ariana Grande and Piers Morgan have squashed the beef. But what was the beef that they have now squashed? Well, it all comes back to an incident where the pair butted heads over the girl band Little Mix, who came in for criticism from Morgan after posing nude on the cover art for their single Strip.

"Why don’t we stop pretending that getting your kit off is feminist empowerment?" said Morgan after the cover art debuted, getting into a flame war with Grande's mother Joan, before Ariana Grande had to step in to assert some form of control over the squabble.

"I look forward to the day you realize there are other ways to go about making yourself relevant than to criticize young, beautiful, successful women for everything they do. I think that’ll be a beautiful thing for you and your career or what’s left of it."

For a while there, things had gotten ugly between Ariana Grande and Piers Morgan, but now that they've talked things out, let's hope the two can continue to find common ground.
