Social media's influence on popular culture cannot be denied. Just think back to the Nineties, when the term almost exclusively referred to offbeat sartorial trends (I'm looking at you, Justin and Britney), MTV music videos and TRL's commentary on all of the above. In 2018, however, we're more content with letting our freak flag fly - spending hours tagging our friends in memes, creating GIFs and laughing over the fact that Nicole Kidman doesn't know how to clap.

One celebrity who has been made into countless memes and GIFs is Keanu Reeves. I mean, you must be living under a rock if you haven't seen the sad Keanu meme, and now it appears that the internet has  conjured up a rather bizarre, albeit fitting, conspiracy theory about him too.

We're only three months into 2018, and we've had teenagers eating tide pods, alleged "time travellers" revealing their finds, and now, a conspiracy theory involving everyone's favourite punching bag, Keanu Reeves.

It's evident that several of Hollywood's finest have managed to defy the passing of time. There's the veritable vampire that is Paul Rudd, Queen Bey, and Reeves who appears not to have aged since his Matrix days. Now, in regards to the latter, the people of the internet have a theory more compelling than his hearty bank balance and a swanky skincare regimen - and it's that he's immortal.

Let's check out the evidence, shall we? First, there's this painting of the French actor, Paul Mounet, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Keanu.

I mean, they're both actors, right? And just check out this photograph - it couldn't possibly be anyone other than Keanu.

And that's not all. If you look back at his Bill and Ted days, it's clear that Keanu hasn't aged a day. That, or, he needs to let us in on who his dermatologist is.

The actor has even alluded to his purported immortality. While working on The Matrix, Reeves allegedly donated $75 million to crew on the special effects and costume teams. Speaking back in 1991, he said "Money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries." Well, isn't that handy?

But while contending with all the practicalities of being immortal, Keanu has been keeping himself busy with acting work. He's set to appear in a new action epic by Rick Famuyiwa that's exclusive to Netflix. Deadline reports that Past Midnight is described as "a feature about a new kind of vigilante superhero", and that Keanu is set to have the starring role.

Right now, however, the actor is working on The Starling, Rally Car, Replicas, Siberia, Destination Wedding, and the television mini-series, Rain.

I guess you have to keep yourself busy when there's no end in sight...

In other news, Keanu Reeves has been running a secret cancer foundation which funds children's hospitals.
