Since she announced her engagement to Prince Harry last year, Meghan Markle has had to face incessant scrutiny due to her background, appearance and former career as an actress. For some people, Markle is a breath of fresh air in an often archaic family, but for others, she doesn't fit the mould of what they think the stereotypical 'royal' should be.

A lot of the attention has been on Markle's appearance and, more specifically, her clothing choices. The former Suits actress ignited controversy after her engagement announcement in November. After she and Harry appeared before the press for their outside photo shoot, many people claimed the Meghan had made her first royal fashion "faux pas" by going bare-legged in public.

Of course, the criticism of Markle was absurd, but it's got a whole lot worse since then. Yesterday, Markle stepped out with her fellow royals and caused a stir once more. Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the 36-year-old was wearing a pair of nude tights for the occasion. Whether she was simply looking to put an end to the controversy or just wanted to be a bit warmer, it's not known But, whatever Markle's reasons behind donning the tights, there is no strict protocol that royals have to wear them on every appearance.

"Although pantyhose are not required for every event, they are generally a rule for more formal or conservative royal events," Christine Ross of Meghan's Mirror explained to E! Online.

"The perception is that pantyhose are more modest and feminine, but given how chilly London can be, it may be a practical choice more than anything."

But, rather than be satisfied by her new outfit and the fact that she had adorned tights for the event, haters decided to criticise Meghan's legs - saying that they were too skinny to be healthy.

Several people took to social media to label her as "ugly" and "anorexic". While other users accused her of skipping leg day, despite the fact that Meghan has previously spoken about her love of working out.

In an interview last year, Meghan opened up about her attitude toward her wellness, with her admitting to being a bit fan of yoga, pilates and meditation.

"My health, my state of mind, the feeling you have after a workout; all of this things drive me to step onto my mat or go to the gym," Markle told Women's Health.

"Sometimes the idea of working out sounds absolutely dreadful, but I always remind myself of how good it will feel afterwards. Euphoric, almost!"

It seems ridiculous that Markle is now being criticised for having "skinny" legs. Personally, the fact that she has disrupted a lot of the royal conventions and traditions is a good thing - the family was outdated and it was about time that they got dragged into the 21st century. Keep doing you, Meghan!
