Every year, when Mother's Day comes around, social media lights up with cuddly snaps and cute dedications from grateful children to their perfect moms (because if you don't post it on social media, it pretty much means you don't love them, right?). And, amidst all the "best mom ever" and the "couldn't live without you" declarations, you'll see one phrase popping up again and again: "I got it from my mumma", usually accompanied by cute a mom-daughter selfie.

But, could we all be mistaken in thinking that our genes come from our parents? The "skip a generation" theory - the idea that our genetic make ups are actually more strongly passed from grandparent to grandchild - is one that's been bounced around for years now, with some believing that everything from our looks to our predisposition to certain illnesses are dictated by our parents' parents. And while there are plenty of celebrity kids that do look just like their famous folks, a new generation of celebrity grandchildren is proving that there might be something in it after all.

Grace Kelly and Charlotte Casiraghi

It's all in the face shape for Princess Grace and ninth in line to the throne of Monaco, Charlotte Casiraghi

Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough

It's clear to see where actress and producer Riley Keough got those beautiful blue eyes from

Gregory Peck and Ethan Peck

Both have that classic tall, dark and handsome combo; give Gregory a beard and they're basically the same person

Jane Fonda and Viva Vadim

There might be a good few years between them, but you still can't miss the resemblance

Sir Paul McCartney and Arthur Donald

And if the rumors are to be believed, Arthur is now dating Reese Witherspoon's daughter, Ava.

Of course, while they might have won the genetic lottery, it must still be pretty odd living your life as the grandchild of an A-lister. I mean, how weird must it be knowing that your 70-something granddad is cooler than you by default, because he's one of the world's most legendary rockstars? And how much pressure must there be to look beautiful all the damn time, knowing that when people see you they think of a woman considered one of the most beautiful ever? Either way, it seems like they're all doing a pretty great job so far - and who knows what talent they've got in store for the world yet.
