Many of the 39-year-old's followers were overjoyed with the news, with hundreds taking to the comment section to send their congratulations.

Others admitted they'd have a tough time accepting the Hollywood hunk was destined to marry another with one writing: "I can’t even bring myself to double tap this one. It hurts too much".

The couple were first reported to be dating seven months ago, but their first public acknowledgement came last month when Chris turned to Instagram to wish Katherine a happy 29th birthday and share a collage of photos.

"Happy Birthday Chief!," he wrote. "Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care.♥️???".

Before the engagement announcement, a source close to the couple allegedly told PEOPLE that the two were "serious" saying: "They’re both serious about the relationship and hopeful for the future. Chris doesn’t just date to date, and neither does Katherine. She’s very excited. Chris and Katherine are very happy together. They’re very compatible and have a lot in common."

This will be the Jurassic World star's second marriage; he married actress Anna Faris in 2009, with the pair announcing their split eight years later.

The two share a son named Jack and have agreed on a "flexible timeshare" in order to co-parent. In addition, their court documents stipulate that they will live no further than five miles apart until Jack finishes sixth grade.

Anna, who is currently dating cinematographer Michael Barrett, opened up about their divorce during a recent episode of her podcast, Unqualified, stating that the exes work to ensure there is no bad blood.

"Chris and I work really hard ‘cause we have Jack, that is sort of the long game idea and making sure Jack is really happy, which makes us really happy," she said. "We have sort of the luxury of circumstance. You know, we are both in other loving relationships. … But it’s like, how do you not in general sink into a place of bitterness?"

The Scary Movie star continued: "I do want to reiterate though that I f**king acknowledge — we all do, everyone acknowledges — that there is bitterness and pain with all breakups and that hopefully makes us human. But the long game is just the worst, being the bigger person. It just is. It f**king sucks. Until then, what matters most is that everyone’s happy."

Congratulations Chris and Katherine!
