Chrissy Teigen fires back at Seal over Oprah comments in pointed Instagram post
If there's one person you don't want to start internet beef with, it's Chrissy Teigen. The former model and host of Lip Sync Battle has proven to be quite the pro when it comes to shutting people down on social media platforms, and is rarely one to shy away from conflict.
Just last month, she directly addressed slanderous claims that she was somehow involved in the entirely fictitious "pizzagate" scandal on Twitter and she has previously taken aim at the likes of Donald Trump, Sophia the Robot, and even her own husband (although the latter are usually performed in a more friendly in tone).
So, when Seal posted a particularly scathing criticism of Oprah Winfrey yesterday, Teigen just had to weigh in.
The singer, who is famous for the 1990s hits "Kiss From a Rose" and "Future Love Paradise", took aim at the talk show host after she spoke about sexual abuse and inequality amongst women and minorities at the Golden Globes.
Like many Hollywood figures, Oprah was formerly acquainted with Harvey Weinstein - and so Seal took her speech as somewhat hypocritical and "sanctimonious", given that she had formerly rubbed shoulders with the man whose behaviour kicked off the whole scandal.
However, Oprah's supposed friendship with Weinstein was not as cut and dry as Seal made it out to be, and a lot of people commented to say as much.
"Oh so your [sic] a Saint," wrote one commenter. "Oprah has done so much good in this world. To post this is a show of your Character not hers ... I’m disgusted you would throw her under the bus."
"How many times have you heard rumours and immediately cut off ties with that person?" said another. "Look inside before you respond, we don’t want you turning into a pillar of salt."
Teigen's comment, meanwhile, was slightly more cryptic.
"Hmm. Let’s just say we’ve all heard things about each other, haven’t we?" she wrote in response.
What exactly it is that Teigen has heard, she didn't elaborate on. However, it might have something to do with the fact that Seal's ex-wife, Heidi Klum, was particularly close to the disgraced producer, and was seen attending social events with him on several occasions.
Alternatively, it could have something to do with Seal being a known acquaintance of Kevin Spacey - another man who was incriminated during the recent speight of sexual assault revelations.
Either way, Seal's haste to incriminate Oprah in something about which he had no proof seems disingenuous, especially given that he himself has had some association with others who have been outed as sexual abusers. Perhaps Teigen will eventually elaborate on what she meant by the comment, but the fact that she didn't, implies that the threat alone was enough to keep Seal from saying anything further.
Ultimately, a lot of people had the same thing to say to Seal when it came to his comments about Oprah: people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - especially if they're not even sure what they're aiming at.
