Ah, Drew Barrymore. Those of you who are a certain age will remember her from the likes of 50 First Dates, Donnie Darko or the original Scream film (I don't know about you but I certainly feel old right now), but in recent times she's become a lot more known for her dieting.

Of course, I'm referring to her Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet. But I'm also referring to Barrymore's eating habits in real life, where she works just as hard on maintaining her body while consuming up to 100 percent less human flesh to do so.

Just recently, Drew Barrymore showed us all how it's done, emerging from the holiday season with a renewed work ethic, and showing off her new bod, now 25 pounds lighter. That was back on December 21, when most of us are building up quite a significant holiday gut, but fast forward to February, and she's finding things a lot harder.

Taking to Instagram to share with us a little bit more of her life, Barrymore posted a picture of a slice of pizza behind glass; so close, yet so far. I know that feeling. "This is exactly how I feel on my diet right now!" she captioned the post, and I really relate to the 43-year-old here: going without pizza is tough.

It was a really tough four days for me.

Sharing a photo of herself before and after the 25-pound weight loss, Barrymore showed her delight in shedding the pounds.

"You can tell my face is so much thinner. This takes me so much work. Diet and exercise and fighting like a lion for it! Damn you genetics! And yet thank you for all the good stuff. I love where I come from (JOHN ETHEL LIONEL) and whatever package it comes in. I just know that I have the control to be what I want. Even if it is hard AF!"

So, we've talked a lot about Drew Barrymore's diet - what was actually on the menu for this actress, mom and all-round cool person? Well, wouldn't you like to know? According to a source who talked  to HollywoodLife, Barrymore's weight loss was based around extensive training, of course, but also cutting out processed foods and that from her plate.

"Drew really wanted to get in shape, her weight has fluctuated her whole life but as she’s gotten older she’s definitely started finding it harder to drop the weight than gain it," explained the source, and I think that the extent she went to is impressive, to say the least.

"She worked really hard to lose the 25 lbs, it wasn’t an easy loss by any means, she cut out all processed foods and ate really clean, lots of fresh veggies and salads, as well as pulses and then she ate nuts for a snack if she was feeling hungry between meals. Drew also cut out carbs from her diet and upped her intake of protein, so lots of lean chicken and fish as well as the occasional steak."

Well, folks: there you have it. Losing weight is difficult for everyone, even if you're Drew Barrymore, and I have to give her props for sticking at it. Especially if there's pizza to tempt her.
