Eugenie Bouchard answers the question everyone wants the answer to with Super Bowl date
Last night, The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl for the first time by beating the New England Patriots 41-33 in a thrilling encounter in Minneapolis. The game saw multiple records tumble and the expected norms of an NFL game went out the window. The Eagles, who were led expertly by quarterback Nick Foles, produced a brilliant offensive display to deny the Patriots a record-equalling sixth Super Bowl crown.
However, for all the headlines that this famous victory is likely to grab, there was arguably a bigger story going on off of the pitch (no, not Kylie Jenner's baby).
As you more than likely are aware by now, Eugenie Bouchard has become something of an internet sensation off the back of her antics during the Superbowl last year.
Last year, the Super Bowl left the majority of people absolutely speechless, and not just because of the events that unfolded on the pitch. While the comeback from New England Patriots was absolutely remarkable, there was something else developing in the world of Twitter. Eugenie Bouchard, the Canadian tennis player, confidently tweeted about the Atlanta Falcons winning the game and scooping the trophy. The lead was sitting at a whopping 21-0 at the time of the tweet and the majority of people assumed that the game was over.
However, that didn't stop John Goehrke trying his luck and offering up a brilliant proposal to the tennis players: "If Patriots win we go on a date?"
Much to everyone's surprise, Bouchard agreed and that's when things took a drastic turn. The Patriots pulled off the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history and Goehrke had managed to earn himself a date with the Canadian heartthrob.
Bouchard was a woman of her word and the two went out on a date to a Brooklyn Nets vs Milwaukee Bucks game. But while the whole thing may have seemed like a bit of a gimmick, the pair clearly hit it off and have been spotted together on several occasions since the date.
Now, a year on from that infamous night, this unlikely romance embarked on its next chapter at this year's instalment of the Super Bowl.
The duo rekindled the romance in the same place where it all began after they received an invited from the NFL Canada Twitter account. Taking to her Twitter account, Genie shared an image of the two lovebirds on their most recent escape and captioned it 'What a difference a year makes.'
The pair also took control of the NFL Canada Twitter account for a Q&A session in which they finally answered the question on everyone's lips.
Top quality trolling there.
In all seriousness though, it sadly looks like the pair aren't actually dating. According to various reports, Genie has been dating ice hockey player Jordan Karon, leaving Goehrke firmly in the friend-zone.
Who knows if we will see the third instalment of this forever-twisting story? If there is one, it will cast Lord Of The Rings to the side and firmly cement itself as the greatest three-part story ever told.
