If you've only the slightest interest in celebrity news, then there's only one story which is being talked about at the moment: Khloé Kardashian's reported split from Tristan Thompson.
It's all anyone's been talking about: on any other week, news of Lady Gaga splitting from her fiancé would have easily been headline news, but the celeb news landscape belongs to the Kardashians and the Jenners, and so it's shown in this latest tale of infidelity and betrayal.
We all know the basics of what's going on: Tristan allegedly cheated on Khloé (again) after being caught two-timing, but the shocking thing about this is that Jordyn Woods, Kylie Jenner's best friend (!) is the one who Tristan is rumoured to have cheated with. Cue plenty of drama, subtle moves on social media, and plenty of revelations from unnamed sources.
It's what I live for, baby.
But imagine being out of the loop with all this. Or (slightly more likely), imagine not caring. Imagine being a celebrity in your own right, going about your day and appearing in public, and having all that madness unfold on social media feeds. How would you respond?
I don't get to say this often, but Gwyneth Paltrow is someone I could really empathise with in that situation, and her subtle (but hilarious) comment on an Instagram post really captures what it's like to be someone who's not massively invested in this Kardashian drama.
Like most comments by celebrities on Instagram, Paltrow's soundbite was captured by the account Comments By Celebs, where she responded to a post which questioned Jordyn Woods for sacrificing her lavish lifestyle as Kylie's best friend to hook up with Tristan Thompson, a basketball player who's not quite reached LeBron James or Steph Curry levels of fame:
"Jordyn Woods is best friends with the worlds [sic] youngest billionaire who gifts her with cars, diamonds and lavish vacations. You're telling me there's a chance she gave that all up for a guy who rides bench for the Cavs [NBA team the Cleveland Cavaliers] and has a community d**k? THE HORROR"
But with a wit I hadn't honestly associated with the star of Shakespeare In Love, The Talented Mr Ripley and Seven, the owner of Goop responded to this post as follows: "Can someone explain what's going on? I have never heard of half these people, someone give me context. Please. It seems serious."
Now, it's not clear whether Gwyneth Paltrow is taking a subtle dig at the Kardashians and their drama or if she genuinely has no idea what's going on, but it tickled me either way. It also tickled the Comments By Celebs account, who said in their own caption: "Well, Gwyneth, I highly suggest listening to our emergency podcast episode."
Well, you usually don't know what celebrities make of other celebrities and their drama, but Gwyneth Paltrow has given us a little window into what that's like. Let's hope she listens to that emergency podcast, folks.
