Halle Berry reveals the bizarre secret drink she claims is behind her youthful looks
What's the secret to eternal youth?
In all honesty, we don't have the answer, but apparently Halle Berry has the next best thing.
Looking at the actress, it's hard to believe she's 51 years old. But it's not just a mix of good fortune and excellent genetics that gave her the gift of youthfulness - she works pretty hard for it too. You can see her weekly #FitnessFriday posts on Instagram, where she offers motivational messages and workout tips for her followers.
Back in April, Berry's trainer Peter Lee Thomas spoke to PEOPLE about what it's been like working with the actress for the last two years. “I had no idea what her age was when I met her," he explained. "I never looked or was interested in that, and when I found out, I was absolutely shell-shocked because she has the discipline and athleticism of a 25-year old."
The duo work out five days a week using a combination of exercises, including boxing, yoga, martial arts and "a lot of military training [like] the Navy Seals would do".
According to the trainer, she could “very easily transition” into becoming a professional athlete if she was so inclined:
“She’s also not afraid to experiment and explore and take risks when it comes to fitness, because she understands that in order for there to be potential growth and change, she’s going to have to do things that are commonly difficult to do."
“I bring a constellation of things. That, in itself, is quite challenging because she has to be ready almost on improv. It can break a lot of people, who don’t see the workout the day prior.”
However, there is one addition thing that Berry consumes that apparently contributes to her amazing looks: bone broth.
Yep, you read that right.
“You can make it, you can go to the butcher and get all the bones they're going to throw away and he'll give them to you for free,” she explained in an interview with Extra that went out on Monday. “Take the bones, boil them up for 24 hours … and you drink the broth. It's so full of collagen that it's crazy.”
According to the USDA, it offers up some calcium, vitamin D, and various other nutrients - without being high in calories. Plus, it has an impressive nine grams of protein per cup, according to the USDA.
Craig Austin, a dermatologist and founder of Cane + Austin skincare, has previously spoken to Women's Health about the effect this can have on the body:
"Your body converts those nutrients into essential amino acids that are needed to keep your skin and bones healthy.
“These nutrients are then sent to the bloodstream and will supply the dermis—the deepest part of your skin—with naturally produced collagen.”
So, if you want to look good when you're 51, why not try out some bone broth? However, it should be warned that no one can promise you'll look as good as Halle Berry because of it.
