Henry Cavill and his chiseled good looks have been turned into a meme and it's perfect
If you've been on the Internet in the past six months - and I know you have - you're familiar with the "Distracted Boyfriend" meme. It's a stock photograph of a guy checking out another woman, while walking with his girlfriend, who looks at him disapprovingly. Typically, stock images are pretty forgettable, but last July, this meme exploded.
People pasted text and images over the three characters to display their 'distracted' opinions about everything - entertainment, politics, sports, technology, little things in every day life. You can see why it went viral. The meme easily adapts to any topic, and the couple's facial expressions are always funny.
This summer the sixth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise will hit theaters - that's right, there have already been five of these things, catch up! It's called Mission Impossible - Fallout and stars some familiar faces (Ving Rames, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin) as well as some new characters played by Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill. The first Mission: Impossible movie came out back 1996 - who knew the film series would last this long, and still be so good?
Tom's clearly excited about the new movie. Once again, the 55-year-old actor is insisting on doing all of his own stunts, which are getting progressively crazier. On Twitter, he shared a photo of himself clutching the tail of an aerial helicopter, as it flew low ,near rock faces. Then he shared a photo of himself jumping a huge gap between two buildings (and when he landed, he broke his ankle). Now he shared a much less action-packed photo, of Henry Cavill walking away from the Eiffel Tower. At first glance, it seems boring. However, this photo went viral after people noticed a similarity to a certain meme.
I mean, it's not a perfect recreation, since there are just two characters. But still, the resemblance is uncanny.
The people demanded memes, and like a zombie, the "Distracted Boyfriend" meme roared back to life.
Some of the memes referenced Mustache-Gate. In case you don't remember, Warner Bros. called Henry Cavill back to do reshoots for Justice League, because, like every DC movie except Wonder-Woman, the production was a bit of a mess. However, Henry was in the midst of Mission: Impossible 6, and wasn't allowed to shave his mustache. Since Warner Bros was under a deadline, they decided to remove Henry mustache with CGI. Which is pretty hilarious. I hope they release a version of Justice League with the 'stache scenes intact.
"Good morning, Twitter users. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make the perfect meme mashing up 'Distracted Boyfriend' with Mustache-Gate. This message will self-destruct in thirty seconds."
And just like that, the 'Distracted Boyfriend' me is back. I guess this could all be some cynical PR ploy to drum interest Mission: Impossible 6. But either way, the photos are funny. Great job, Internet!
