Here's how much Kim Kardashian's surrogate was reportedly paid for carrying their baby

In case you were unaware, it has been confirmed that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed a new baby girl into the world in the early hours on Monday morning. Taking to her website, Kim issued a short but informative statement confirming the birth, which came via a surrogate.

"Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl. We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister."

The reality star opted to have the child via a surrogate after suffering from a series of complications during her previous two childbirths and described the experience as being "so much harder" than given birth naturally, saying:

“Anyone that says or thinks (surrogacy) is just the easy way out is just completely wrong”

“Obviously you pick someone that you completely trust and that you have a good bond and relationship with, but it is still ... knowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not, you know, my baby now, it’s hard for me. So, it’s definitely a harder experience than I anticipated just in the control area.”

Unsurprisingly, since this is Kim Kardashian we're talking about, the fact that she has used a surrogate has raised awareness for this method of conceiving, leading to many people questioning how much it costs.

Back in June, TMZ reported that Kim would be paying her surrogate $45,000 in 10 payments of $4,500. However, that is not the only cost that is involved in surrogacy. It's also been reported that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star forked out a further $68,850 on the agency that found her.

Despite what many people may have believed, the surrogate didn't get paid any more than usual just because it was a Kardashian baby that she was carrying. Stephanie Caballero, the founder of Surrogacy Law Center in California, said that Kim and Kanye had paid the typical price for an experienced surrogate. She also added that if they had to pay more due to who they are, it would've seemed like bribery based on their fortune.

However, despite not getting the massive paycheque that many people would have expected, Kim's surrogate did get plenty of praise. Not just content with complimenting the anonymous woman in her statement, Kim had previously gushed about her adulation of her.

"I love her. I have the best relationship with my surrogate. She’s so nice. She’s the perfect person to do this for my family.”

According to Reproductive Possibilities, the estimated cost for a surrogacy is between $70,000 - $90,000. This price doesn't include the cost of the IVF treatment, which is also extremely expensive. So while surrogacy may have been an option for Kim and her millions of dollars, this is not the case for many women.

Surrogacy is an expensive, complicated and difficult procedure to go through, but it can have huge benefits for some families like the Kardashian-West clan. Good luck to KimYe with their new baby daughter, no doubt she'll be grabbing the headlines in a few years.
