Jennifer Lawrence is single again after breaking up with 48-year-old Darren Aronofsky
It has been reported that actress Jennifer Lawrence is now single, after her recent relationship has come to an end. She has been dating movie director Darren Aronofsky for the last year, with the couple getting together in September 2016. Entertainment Tonight reports that the couple broke up a month ago, deciding to keep the separation private.
Aronofsky, known for directing such critically-acclaimed films as Requiem For A Dream and Black Swan, also directed Mother!, of which Lawrence was the star. In fact, it was this project that sparked off their romance. Mother! was one of the year's most divisive movies, with as many complaints and walk-outs as praise.
The film, which was booed at its Venice press screening, is about a well-respected poet and his loving wife (played by Lawrence), who is supporting him and doing up their home while he works through his writing block. After some unwanted strangers turn up at their isolated country home, things take a turn for the worse.
Lawrence supposedly went through a lot on set given the intensity of the performance she had to give, with some reports claiming that she dislocated a rib during one particularly gruelling scene. "I had to go to a darker place than I’ve ever been in my life," she said in an interview with Vogue magazine. "I didn’t know if I’d be able to come out OK." Although she did sing Aronofsky's praises as a director, telling ET Tonight that "He's just brilliant. Incredibly instinctual."
When asked about whether the relationship on set was complicated at all given that they were dating, Aronofsky said:
"She's the type of actor that turns off all the intensity when she's not shooting, and then flips it on when she needs it. And so, in between action and cut, she's the character, and then when you call cut, she's Jennifer Lawrence again."
"I don't know what makes her great - maybe it was her parents, maybe it was the Kentucky water. I have no idea, but she's, like, a once-in-a-generation talent, and just a whirlwind and a hurricane and an earthquake and a thunderstorm of talent."
Seeing as the movie is about an artistic older man and his younger partner and muse, many saw parallels given the age difference between the real life couple - with the director being over twenty years older than the 27-year-old actress. While he admits there are some similarities between him and the film's characters, he refutes the idea that he is as work-obsessed as Lawrence's on-screen husband.
"I only have to be a monster on set – for two or three months every few years," Aronfsky, who has an 11-year-old son from a previous relationship with actress Rachel Weisz, said. "The rest of the time I’m a nine-to-five father. I take my kid to school, go to sleep, live a life."
According to the report, while the two have decided to part ways, the separation was amicable, with neither of them holding bad feelings towards each other. While she has yet to make any comment on the split, Lawrence has recently opened up about the nude photo leaks she suffered in 2014.
