John Mayer just flirted with Nicki Minaj on Twitter and it worked
One wonders how celebrity couples end up hooking up. They must be around an inordinate number of famous people each and every day, to the point where fame just becomes boring. How does one famous singer, for example, stand out from the rest? If you're always around Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Ed Sheeran and Drake, who do you actually feel like dating?
John Mayer has been asking these questions for awhile. The legendary singer, raised in Fairfield Connecticut, has long held a romantic affiliation for Nicki Minaj, currently the most famous female rapper in the world by a wide margin. But here was the problem for Mayer - how does one go public with these feelings? They're both superstars, but how do you break through the mold and make it clear that you have a crush?
On September 8th, a lazy afternoon around 4 PM, Mayer took his longing thoughts for Minaj and transformed them into a Twitter post. After all, why not just put it out there?
At least he got it out there, right? Well, imagine his shock and awe when Nicki Minaj actually responded.
Oh damn. Mayer was just as floored as everyone else:
Twitter was quick to build up the pressure:
We don't know yet if the two actually hooked up, or contacted each other on some illuminati back channels. But woke Twitter rapidly rode to the situation on pegasi of righteousness:
Oh my, could Mr. Mayer be, gasp, problematic?!?!?!
A 2010 Playboy interview was unearthed, wherein Mayer made some comments about his sexual attraction to black women:
“My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.
"I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And Kerry Washington. She’s super hot and she’s also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl. Just all of a sudden she’d be like, ‘Yeah, I sucked his dick. Whatever.'”
Of course, calling his dick a white supremacist is what has everyone tangled up in knots. It was, however, a joke, of course, and it was made well before the 'SJW' movement had geared up full-steam for its online patrols of insufficient wokeness.
Is it racist to not be attracted to members of a certain race? Well, it depends. If homosexuality is biological, and not up to individual gay people to control, then couldn't dating preferences also be somewhat biological? After all, peoples' mating habits can be dictated by things as simple as a person smelling somewhat similar to their siblings, which casts them as 'unattractive'. People could have similar preferences for skin color, which would just be aesthetic sexual preference, and not necessarily rooted in racism. On the contrary, one could see black features as undermined by a white society, and Mayer as complicit in undervaluing black beauty.
Either way, it seems that he's open to dating black women now. Let's hope that their first date went well. Maybe Minaj's ex, Meek Mill, will diss 'em both on his next record.
