As well as the myriad upsides, the trappings of fame if you will; the glamorous red carpet events, the riches, the famous friends, celebrity does have its downsides, too.

Living life in the full force of the spotlight's never ceasing glare must get tiresome at times; after all if you're, say, a Kardashian, it must be pretty much impossible to nip out of the house to buy some milk without getting papped.

Perhaps this is why many celebrities seem to end up becoming friends with each other; after all, if you're concerned about details of your private life being leaked to the media, it surely follows that it's fairly sensible to spend your time with other people who are concerned about details of their private lives being leaked to the media. It's a kind of silent pact, if you will.

It certainly seems as though Jennifer Anniston concurs, because if reports are to be believed she enforced a total social media ban at her birthday party.

As Cosmopolitan reports, the guest list was chock full of absolute top class Hollywood names, such as Katy Perry, John Mayer, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon and Ellen Degeneres, and lucky for us, a couple of them didn't seem to get the memo RE: no social media at the party.

So, courtesy of Gwyneth Paltrow, here's a glimpse of the festivities.

She captioned the adorable montage;

"Happy birthday (last night and tomorrow) to #jenniferaniston our ray of sunshine, example of perpetual goodness. We love you so much and you make 50 LOOK"

And then Kate Hudson got in on the act, too, writing;

"Love these ladies ?Celebrated this beauty last night ✨Happy Bday JA! We all love you sooo!"

So how have we deduced that there was a social media ban at Jen's party? Well Katy Perry commented on Kate Hudson's upload with the decidedly unambiguous "NO SOCIAL MEDIA".

Thankfully, though, it seems like Hudson had herself covered on the ban, as she replied to Perry with "got permish" along with some cheeky emojis.

Brad Pitt was also reportedly at the party; People reports that Pitt made a "casual" entrance to the celebration, while Friends co-stars Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox also made an appearance.

Let's be honest, it looks like an absolutely stellar birthday party, and more power to Jen for enforcing a social media ban; you're probably more likely to enjoy your birthday if people aren't starring glassy eyed at their phones all night.
