Kristen Bell can do no wrong. Whether she's speaking candidly about her relationship with Dax Shepard, or starring in some critically acclaimed television show or the other, it's clear that she's always being authentically Kristen.

The Veronica Mars has opened up about parenting - and the realities of it, as opposed to the picture-perfect depictions of motherhood that we see on social media platforms - on a number of occasions, and it's normally to reveal that she isn't exempt from the odd faux pas. I mean, she once disclosed on live television that she caught anal worms from her kids.

Now, Kristen has confessed to the fact that she's totally lied to her kids about their birthdays, and her reasoning is spot on.

On an episode of Today, which aired yesterday, Kristen really opened up about motherhood. When hosts, Savanna Guthrie and Hoda Kotb asked her if she'd ever lied to her two daughters, 5-year-old Lincoln, and 3-year-old Delta, Kristen answered, "of course".

The actress initially admitted that she sometimes lies to them about what time it is because they "can't tell time". She then went on to reveal that she lies to them about their birthdays.

"I've also lied to them about when their birthday is," Kristen confessed. "If it's on like a Wednesday and we can't celebrate and we're both working late, then guess what, your birthday is on Saturday. They don't know."

And she's even guilty of occasionally putting the laundry off for too long. When Savanna asked her if she lets her daughters wear dirty clothes, Kristen responded with a "duh". "Of course. the honesty part? Like, duh. The answer is duh."

Kristen also recently revealed a rather controversial "trick" that she uses to get Delta to sleep.
"My 3-year-old decided to stop sleeping about nine months ago. And every night, when we put her to bed, she turns the lights on, which annoys the 4-year-old, and she will move furniture, and she bangs on the door with different, hard toys."

Sounds like a nightmare, right? Well, Kristen had a solution - but it's one that would prove to be contentious with other parents.

"We switched the door knob. We turned the lock on the outside," she asserted;

"I’m sorry, I know that’s controversial, but we lock it when she gets in there, and we stand outside and say, ‘We love you, we will talk to you in the morning, but now, it’s time for sleep.’ And after about 10 minutes, she’ll wind herself down. And then, before we go to bed, obviously, we unlock it."

Of course, the judgemental parents of the internet didn't hesitate to condemn the actress for how she chose to handle the situation. "Would you lock your partner or mother in their rooms? Probably not right? It is time to start treating children with the respect they deserve," one social media user wrote.

However, others didn't see the problem at all - trusting Kristen and her husband, Dax, to parent their children as they see fit. "How is this controversial? Also people shouldn't tell people how to parent unless it involves abuse which this is clearly not," another individual stated.
