A long, long time ago, back when Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton were still considered A-list stars, the two used to hang out quite a lot. They were often spotted together at parties or celebrity events, and photos from those occasions are so quintessentially of the noughties era that they almost look staged:

But of all their escapades and evenings together, there's one particular snapshot of Lohan and Hilton that still brings back memories of the early '00s today. It is, of course, this photograph, in which the two stars are crammed into the front seat of a car with none other than Britney Spears:

In a recent interview with Andy Cohen, Hilton was asked by the radio host about the photo, and indeed the night that had preceded it. And, as it turns out, Lohan wasn't actually meant to be invited along at all - that's according to Hilton, anyway.

"She totally party-crashed," Hilton said.

"She just squeezed in [the car] and I didn't want to humiliate her in front of all the paparazzi and be like 'get out of my car,' so I was like whatever."

After that, Hilton said, she drove back to her hotel as planned, where she and Britney went to sleep. Lohan was nowhere to be found the next day, and so the millionaire heiress just assumed she had got a cab ride home.

Seems plausible, right? Well, Lohan is denying that anything like that ever went down.

The Mean Girls star was invited onto Cohen's show shortly after Hilton, and she, too, was questioned on the events of that evening.

"Is that what happened?" Cohen asked, prompting the actress to shake her head.

"I haven't even seen her in years," she said. "And that's not the story, so let's just pass on. I'm not here to talk about Paris."

But the radio show host wouldn't drop the subject.

"She made it seem like she didn't know how you even got home that night!" he said.

Again, though, Lohan had a clapback. "Maybe she doesn't remember it," she said. "End of story."

Still, Cohen wouldn't back off the subject, and the actress looked visibly uncomfortable throughout the ordeal, especially when he implied that she was somehow above hailing a cab. She eventually tried to laugh it off with a joke about her skydiving out of Hilton's hotel suite, but it was clear that she just wanted the interview to be over and done with as soon as possible.

Soooo, we sort of still don't know what went down between the former friends. Whatever it is, though, Lohan clearly doesn't want to talk about it.
