Ten years after his death, every relationship Michael Jackson had with a child has been heavily scrutinised time and time again - but still, the public remains ever-curious to know what exactly it was like to spend time with the music legend.

According to one of the most famous children he befriended, their friendship was "normal and mundane".

In a new interview, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin has spoken out about the time he spent with the King of Pop, stating the pair bonded over their shared experiences of fame.

Speaking on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside Of You podcast, the 38-year-old admitted that Jackson started the friendship, stating: "He reached out to me because a lot of things were happening, big and fast with me and I think he identified with that. At the end of the day, it’s almost easy to say it was weird or whatever but it wasn’t because it made sense. At the end of the day, we were friends."

Culkin, who is still close to Jackson's daughter Paris, continued: "I was a peerless person. Nobody else in my Catholic school had even this much idea of what I was going through and he was the kind of person who’d been through the exact same frickin’ thing and wanted to make sure I wasn’t alone."

Confessing that the two friends would often prank call people while together, he went on to describe the entertainer's personality, saying: "He was f**king hilarious. He was charming, f***ing funny, silly. For me, it’s so normal and mundane. I know it’s a big deal to everyone else, but to me, it was a normal friendship."

The pair first after the singer called Culkin "out of the blue" when he was nine or ten and had just starred in the first Home Alone movie. Between the ages of ten and 14, he visited Jackson's Neverland ranch "more than a dozen times"  and had slept in his bed several times.

When child molestation allegations were brought against him, the young actor was the first celebrity witness in the trial, dismissing the accusations as "absolutely ridiculous".

In the same interview with Michael Rosenbaum, the 38-year-old also opened up about his relationship with his dad, claiming he "really shouldn't have been a father, to be honest".

Naming Kit Culkin a "mean b*stard", he said: "The word 'proud' never came across his lips. I do actually go out of my way, when it comes to my brothers and loved ones, when they do something really good or great, I go out of my way to say that I am proud of them, because that's something I never really heard."

Culkin hasn't spoken to his dad in "about 23 years," despite his father attempting to reconnect around 18 to 20 years ago.

He has been outspoken in the past about his relationship with Kit, in one interview alleging he was "mentally and physically" abusive, "jealous" of him, and made threats including, "Do good or I’ll hit you".

The My Girl star famously sued his parents over his $17 million earnings in a custody dispute when he was 15 years old, having their names removed as his legal guardians so they could no longer control his fortune.
