Your birthday is the one day you have when you can expect your nearest and dearest to go all out for you. Whether that means splashing out on a lavish gift or simply taking time out of your busy schedule for the birthday girl or boy - it's your special day.
That's why when one woman named Siobhan told her colleagues she was hoping to get a Mariah Carey-themed cake for her birthday, she never for a moment expected there'd be any sort of hiccup. It was a simple enough request, after all.
But that's exactly what happened, according to Canadian Twitter user Harriet Lye.
Harriet's cousin in England sent her a photo of the cake she was presented with - and it was not quite the Mariah Carey cake she'd had in mind.
"My cousin in England told her colleagues she wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake," she wrote on Twitter. "They misunderstood, and is the cake they made her instead. It’s Marie Curie, looking very festive."
So instead of getting their co-worker the Mariah Carey cake she wanted, they got her one designed with a black and white portrait of the hugely celebrated physicist surrounded by pink fairy cakes and candles which spelt out 'Happy Birthday'.
In an ideal world, anyone would be honoured to get a cake in the theme of the first-ever female winner of a Nobel prize, which she received her research into radioactivity. A true pioneer, she discovered radium and polonium and made a huge contribution to the fight against cancer.
