The average person doesn't really need to worry about exes too much. Once we cut someone out of our lives, it's very rare that we'll ever have to deal with them again. Sure, there's always one or two juicy stories on Reddit about unwitting romantics who bumped into their ex-partner at the local grocery store - but for the most part, once they're gone, they're gone. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.

But when it comes to love and heartbreak, celebrities actually get quite a raw deal. Yes, they are rich and famous - but with celeb circles being so tight and incestuous, it's inevitable that at some point they are going to have an awkward conversation over dinner at an awards event. Take the majestic Jennifer Lawrence for example; she's dated director Darren Aronofsky, musician Chris Martin, and actor Nicholas Hoult. In her line of work, it's going to be pretty hard to avoid them...

Comedian and actress Mindy Kaling however is another kettle of fish entirely - and to be honest it's massively refreshing. Fans of The Office will know that Mindy had an onscreen and offscreen, on-again-off-again relationship with B.J. Novak. In the show they played Kelly and Ryan, a couple that struggled to get it together, but offscreen the pair are best friends (even going so far as attending the Oscars together).

While ex-boyfriends normally get a pretty bad reputation, B.J. Novak did his bit to break the stereotype with quite frankly one of the nicest Instagram posts EVER.

Managing to make people all over the world fall in love with him instantly, Novak wrote:

"When I met @mindykaling she lived in a small apartment on Fairfax Ave. This is what's in front of that building today. Congrats Mindy and a future congrats to all those who see you in it and are inspired to do great things."

If there was an Oscar for best ex-boyfriend, Novak would undoubtedly be scooping the prize.

Kaling's response was short and emphatic: "Oh my god I’m like full crying. I will never be mad at you again."

Can I just ask everyone one simple question? WHY ARE THESE TWO NOT TOGETHER?! It makes absolutely no sense. Forget Brad and Jen, forget Brad and Angelina, forget Chris and J-Law - this is the love story that the people need to root for.

While of course there may be some very obvious reasons why Kaling and Novak aren't consciously coupled at the moment, this writer would probably weep like a hormonal teenager if they decided to give it another whirl.
