The 2000s brought along with them dozens of mysteries: why was it popular to have the word 'juicy' on the back of your tracksuit pants? Where did everyone's eyebrows go? Why did Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake think it was a good idea to wear matching denim?

However, there was one puzzle that people wanted to know the answer to more than any other: what happened that night when Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan all hung out together in a car?

Well, wonder no more, because the mystery has finally been solved! In a recent interview, Paris finally dished the dirt on what went down that fateful mid-2000s night - and we're not going to lie, shade was thrown.

Speaking on Andy Cohen's SiriusXM radio show, the 37-year-old revealed that Lindsay had turned up to her and Britney's night out totally uninvited.

"Well, Britney and I went out for the night… [Lindsay] totally party crashed," the Simple Life star said. "We were all at the Beverly Hills Hotel at the bungalows and we were at an after-party and then Britney and I wanted to leave to go home. And then [Lindsay] started, like, chasing us, and then squeezed in the car – it was literally a two-seater. She just, like, squeezed in."

Luckily for the Parent Trap star, Paris went with the flow and (somewhat reluctantly) welcomed her into the vehicle.

"I didn’t want to humiliate her in front of all the paparazzi and be like, ‘Get out of my car', so I was like 'whatever'," she explained. "We went back to my house and then Britney and I just went to sleep. And then, I don't know, Lindsay probably went to another party. There was no Uber back then so she probably called a cab."

When asked if she was still friends with Lindsay, the hotel heiress admitted that the famous friendship hadn't survived.

"Back in the day we were friends," she explained. "[Lindsay] is just, like, one of those people I just don’t really trust. And I only like to be around positive energy and good people – good vibes only."

Looking back in the pair's friendship, it's perhaps no real surprise that they are no longer close. Their frenemy drama dates back to 2006, when Lindsay was linked to Paris' ex-boyfriend, Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos.

Days after the story broke, Paris laughed as her friend, Brandon Davis, trashed the actress in front of the paparazzi, claiming: "I think she's worth about $7 million, which means she's really poor. It's disgusting. She lives in a motel. Who would want to f**k her?"

The reality TV star's publicist later commented, saying: "It is unfair to characterize Brandon's statements as being reflective of Paris' feelings about Lindsay. We're dealing with two different people."

After this followed years of 2000s drama, as the two enjoyed a love-hate relationship.

While it's sad their friendship ultimately didn't work out, we're thrilled that the car mystery has finally come to an end. No more long nights lying awake, eh?
