Doja Cat's 2024 Met Gala outfit has sparked outrage online, with fans saying she should be "banned" from the annual event.

Celebrated musicians, transformative designers, actors, and influencers all came together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday evening (May 6) to celebrate fashion's biggest event.

This year's theme, which was "The Garden of Time," was inspired by the Costume Institute's own permanent collection "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" which aims to highlight the multi-sensory experience of wearing clothes.

The gala was co-chaired by stars including Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Bad Bunny.

Prior to the fashion event, the 'Paint The Town Red' singer - whose full name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini - showed off her first look of the evening which was a towel on her head and wrapped around her body as if she'd come straight from the bathroom.

She then revealed her second look on the red carpet, which was a white, soaking-wet Vetements T-shirt dress, designed by the company's creative director Guram Gvasalia, paired with clear platforms.

For her makeup, the 'Say So' musician opted for a bold eye look, with a smoky shadow liner, thin straight-edged brows, and silver, iridescent tears streaming down her face.

Doja's unique gown choice left fans on social media outraged as they are now calling on Anna Wintour to ban the rapper from future Met Galas.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) slammed: "If this is her only outfit then don't invite Doja Cat next year. Take note Anna Wintour. Didn't you ban her from Met Gala last year?"

"Can we all ask Anna Wintour to ban @DojaCat from every future Met? We are tired," a second chimed in, while a third commented: "Doja cat should be banned from the #metgala if this is the final look…"

"Doja Cat - I would’ve sent her home and banned her from all future Met Galas for wearing this nonsense 0/10," a fourth added.

The Grammy-winning artist opened up about her gown with Entertainment Tonight, revealing that she went for "cotton" as her "flower of choice".

“I know that people are going to do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most-used flower - and it’s cotton,” she told the outlet. “I wanted to do a white T-shirt, also because a white T-shirt is timeless.

"And it felt very poetic to choose this," she continued. "I knew it wasn’t going to blend in too much, and I don’t really like to blend in."

The artist also clarified that she was "actually wet," while wearing the look and that her team used hair gel all over her body.
