People can't stop laughing at The Mountain from 'Game of Thrones' holding a normal-sized mug
As we're probably all aware by now, the final season of Game of Thrones is due to air in April of this year - and with each day that ticks by, we find ourselves pining for more sneak peeks at what might be to come.
A few of the cast members have already spilt the beans on who ends up on the Iron Throne, and others have been lamenting how difficult it was to wrap up a show that many of the actors had spent the best part of a decade working on. Hafþór 'Thor' Björnsson (the guy who plays The Mountain), meanwhile, has been taking a break from all the GoT chatter in order to spend some time with his wife.
Now, it's no secret that Björnsson is an absolute beast both on- and off-screen, as he currently holds the title for being the world's strongest man. And, at 6 ft 9 in (206cm), he very rarely blends in to his surroundings.
Even so, occasional reminders of his incredible size still do not cease to amaze many people.
This weekend, the real-life giant posted a cute snap of himself and his wife (who is 5 ft 2, by the way) to Instagram. The picture showed the two of them enjoying a wholesome cup of hot cocoa while hanging out in the snow, and, while this doesn't sound funny, it was somehow totally hilarious.
I mean, just take a look at how tiny the mug looks in Björnsson's hand:
Yes, that is a normal-sized mug, and yes, The Mountain really is that big.
The photo was shared to the Reddit sub, 'absolute units', where it very quickly garnered a lot of attention and admiration.
"It looks like he can take that hot chocolate down like a shot," commented one person.
"Just for reference, he weighs 400 pounds," another commenter chipped in. "And still has visible abs. If he didnt [sic] eat very strictly and be skinny (for a strongman competitor) he would easily be 500 lbs."
It was then discussed what his insane diet consisted of, with one fan saying that, "He eats very healthy, but eats a LOT. IIRC, about 13lbs of food/10,000+ calories a day.
Oh, and if you wanted some other references for the sheer size of this guy, here he is posing with Joe Manganiello and Arnold Schwarzenegger:
"I like being tall," the strongman said recently in an interview with Brobible. "The only thing that has annoyed me being this tall and heavy is that you can’t really fit anywhere. You have to custom-make the bed [and] you can’t travel with your bed. It’s very annoying. Trying to fit into a cab or Uber is challenging as well. I have to fly business class because I just don’t fit into economy. Otherwise, I’m proud to be tall."
And, when it comes to Game of Thrones, we can expect to see a fair bit of Björnsson in the final season - but it sure won't be easy watching:
"This season was the most difficult season I’ve filmed. The hours that went into it were a lot. It was the first time I had to have a double to help me with some of the scenes. It was challenging," he said.
So, while he may be the world's strongest man, there are at least two things that have proved a challenge for him recently: Game of Thrones, and a mug of cocoa.
