When Gucci ran their catwalk show in Paris Fashion week last week, it ruffled a few feathers. The show featured models walking down the catwalk while holding prosthetic versions of their heads in their hands.

The controversial show caused quite a stir online, with plenty of people not really understand the concept of the show, which was designed to reflect "the work of a designer—the act of cutting, splicing and reconstructing materials and fabrics to create a new personality and identity with them".

"The materials used are typical of an operating room and the environment around it: PVC on the walls and floors, fire doors with panic-bars, LED lamps, and plastic chairs like those in a waiting room. The LED lighting is stark, white and blinding".

However, if you thought that the Gucci show was the most squeamish thing that we would be seeing at PFW, you would be wrong.

At the recent Dior show, model Cara Delevingne rocked up sporting a reptilian-looking ear. It's not believed that the ear was being used as a fashion statement, rather, according to W magazine, Cara was using the ear as a clever marketing tool to promote her latest upcoming TV role. The model-turned-actress is starring in Amazon's new fantasy series about a fairy refugee crisis. The show, called Carnival Row, stars Orlando Bloom and Cara - who will be playing one of the fairies.

It's not known what the technique used to create the illusion was, with some people arguing that it may be very good HD makeup or a prosthetic. If you look very closely, you can see some form of glue or material separating the ear from her skin.

While it's still unclear how Cara achieved this eye-catching, if not slightly haunting, look - it seems like she's not planning on it being a permanent fixture. A day after attending the Dior show, the model - who walked the catwalk for Burberry - was ported wearing a grey beanie and a bandana in order to cover her ears from the paparazzi.

Even though the ear isn't real, it is pretty nightmarish, as one Twitter user eloquently put it.

It's been a busy few months for Cara, with the model releasing a book about mental health and opening up about her struggles with depression. During an interview with This Morning, the 25-year-old said that she wants to help young girls who are struggling with their mental health:

"If you learn to love yourself and not give in to what other people think about you or not care what they think, and just follow your dreams, you can achieve anything. And that's what I want to be for teenagers – not necessarily a role model, but someone who has gone through it and come out the other side."

So just when you thought Gucci and their fake human heads couldn't be topped, Cara Delevingne comes along with a lizard ear. The fashion world is a weird and wonderful place.
