Sarah Jessica Parker's dramatic narration of the solar eclipse is everything
Earlier this week, the world stood still, for a little while at least, to witness the solar eclipse. Whether you were watching along via the copious amounts live streams, participating in some sort of special eclipse activities or imitating President Trump and looking directly at the sun during the phenomenon; I'm sure you had a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
However transformative your solar eclipse experience was, I doubt you had as good a time as Sarah Jessica Parker, who you might remember as the Emmy Award-winning Carrie on Sex and the City. She performed a dramatic narration of the event, and it looks as if she had as much fun making it as I did watching it.
Accompanied by her husband Matthew Broderick, as well as several of her friends on a boat in South Carolina, SJP took to Instagram to document the solar eclipse in a series of enthusiastically-narrated, hilariously-dramatic videos.
Here's the first one. Kitted out in special glasses, Sarah Jessica Parker provides a frantic running commentary to the events unfolding, stopping briefly to turn the camera (very quickly) toward the Sun.
"There is a chip out. We are in South Carolina out on the water. See the sun—don't look too long! There is a chip out on the upper right hand corner. Well, there's no corner—it's a circle... [This is] maybe one of the most thrilling moments of my life. Well, of course having my children and marriage and all of that. Wow. Back to you."
The next videos really show how much the actress is enjoying the entire experience, and as the eclipse began to grow, so too did Parker's joy and anticipation.
"Oh my God, this is the most spectacular light I've ever seen...it's happening, you guys. Oh my God, there it is! This is the most spectacular, unimaginably perfect, beautiful, ridiculous... [she stops mid-sentence here]"
SJP soon revisits the transformative moment later on in the day, reflecting on the eclipse with an amazing and genuine sense of awe. “We did it. We made it. Oh my god. We saw it,” she says in the video, before speaking briefly with husband Matthew Broderick: "Matthew, yes exactly. It’s so humbling. It’s so...extraordinary."
Online, many people were as enamoured with Sarah Jessica Parker's journey through the eclipse as she was experiencing the eclipse, and on Twitter, they paid tribute to another one of Parker's awesome dramatic performances.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't think we've got nearly enough Sarah Jessica Parker in our lives. Ever since Sex and the City wrapped back in 2004, we were starved of the 52-year-old actress for as many as eight years until her guest appearance on Glee.
Now, you can find Sarah Jessica Parker on the HBO show Divorce, but I'm still curious as to what she gets up to from time to time. If this reading of the solar eclipse is any indication, she's clearly having quite a lot of fun in her life at the moment.
