Serena Williams reveals first photos of newborn daughter
Serena Williams shocked the world when she competed in the Australian Open in January this year, especially when it was revealed she had done so while being eight weeks pregnant. Not only did she manage to play tennis while newly pregnant, but she won the competition too. It was a big year for the 23-time Grand Slam champion, who also stirred up some controversy with a nude photoshoot for Vanity Fair.
But the biggest news of all came around two weeks ago, when it was publicly announced that she and her fiance had brought a new life into the world, with her baby daughter being in a healthy condition. When her sister Venus was asked about it, speaking before her match at the U.S. Open, she said: "I'm super excited, words can't describe it".
Serena and her husband-to-be Alexis Ohanian, who she got engaged to in December 2016, have shared their daughter's name, along with some clips and photos now that they have gone home with their daughter. It appears that Ohnian, one of the co-founders of Reddit, has given his name to their newborn child.
Her name is Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, and she was born on September 1. Alexis was weighed at 6 pounds and 14 ounces. They left the hospital after six or seven days, and the little Alexis has made her social media debut on Instagram and YouTube. First came a look at the mother and daughter in this adorable pic:
This photo was posted onto Instagram along with the caption "Meet Alexis Ohanian Jr.", as well as a hint to check out a link in her bio. That link takes you to her YouTube page, where she has posted a video called "Hello, world. Meet our baby girl: Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr." The video chronicles their journey to parenthood, and has taken the internet by storm.
The compilation of clips has over a million views already, and is currently sitting at #3 on the YouTube trending list, while it topped it after it was first posted. It chronicles everything from the couple's discovery that they had a child on the way, to the first kick, to when Serena went into labour at the beginning of this month.
My personal favourite moment has to be when she practises her parenting techniques on her dog, as I imagine I would definitely do in that situation. "It's been a long time," Serena says in the video, "we had a lot of a complications. But look who we got - we got a baby girl!"
Honestly, I'm not really one for cute babies and looking after children. In fact, I'm completely useless at it. Saying that, I think it's impossible for even the most cynical of us to not be moved by seeing those two finally get to see their baby daughter. The whole thing is just so sweet. Hopefully we get to see even more soon.
