"I thought, 'what doesn't exist in pop music at the moment?' And it was mystery.

"I was like, there's pictures on Instagram of everyone at the dentist."

Sia has previously joked about her reasoning behind the headpieces, most notably on The Ellen Show, when she teased, "Well it's just so that I can go to Target and buy a hose if I want to, or if I find I'm in need of a restroom, I can go in the side of the road and no one would be following me with a camera trying to get a shot." However, her admission during Carpool Karaoke felt like a much more legitimate admittance of what they have come to symbolise.

Sia's stylist, Samantha Burkhart, also says that the wig has come to represent a form of protection to the shy and unassuming singer.

“The major difference with Sia is that she is truly being Sia, except she created a rule that helps to protect her identity,” Burkhart says. “But now she’s a pop star, as well. There’s always this kind of tension between those two things. We want it to be fun, we want it to be playful, and we also want it to be serious. It’s not a gimmick.”

However, Sia seems to have let go of some of the insecurities surrounding her appearance. Last night, the singer went out rocking her natural hair and had her entire face on display. While it was surprising to see her looking so bare, there's no denying the fact that she looked happy, healthy and glowing.

The image of Sia sporting her natural look was shared on Twitter and, unsurprisingly, fans were absolutely loving it.
