Tessa Thompson and Janelle Monáe have been rumored to be dating for a while. They frequently attend events together, and Tessa has starred in many of Janelle's music videos, like PYNK and Make Me Feel. But they never confirmed if they're a couple or just really really really good friends.

Last April, Rolling Stone did a cover story on Janelle and she discussed her sexuality. "Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women — I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf---er," said the singer.  She continued, "I read about pansexuality and was like, 'Oh, these are things that I identify with too.' I'm open to learning more about who I am."

Thanks to her scene-stealing roles in Thor: Ragnarok and Westworld, Tessa Thompson's career is blowing up. In an interview with the luxury fashion site Net-A-Port, the actress opened up about her relationship with Janelle. "We love each other deeply, we’re so close. We vibrate on the same frequency," said Tessa. "If people want to speculate about what we are, that’s okay. It doesn’t bother me."

Tessa still doesn't confirm if she and Janelle are in a relationship. She says she's been struggling with this issue, because fame puts you in a difficult position. On one hand, her private relationships are none of anyone's business. On the other hand, if they made their relationship public, they could become visible leaders for a community.

"It’s tricky, because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space, and also wanting to use your platform and influence."

"I can take things for granted because of my family — it’s so free and you can be anything that you want to be. I’m attracted to men and also to women. If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion ... I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones. But so many people don’t."

Some LGBTQ people are still scared to come out. Others came out, but have not been accepted by friends and family. Sadly, there's still discrimination in many pockets of the country. Tessa is understandably reluctant to make her private life public. But she has noticed that Janell's "coming out" made a positive impact.

"I get text messages from friends that are like, 'Would you please let Janelle know I came out to my family because of her?’ I think that work is really helping people and probably saving some lives."

In the Net-A-Port interview, Tessa came out as bisexual, and this will surely make a positive impact as well. It's important for people to accept who they are and understand they're not alone. And who's cooler than Tessa and Janelle?
