At the start of this year, there was some drama surrounding Thomas Markle, the father of the former actress and current Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. He was initially supposed to attend his daughter's wedding, which took place in May of this year, but after some harsh words from his two other children and some poorly-staged photographs, the 74-year-old claimed that he was suffering from heart problems, and could no longer make the ceremony.

Since then, Meghan has gone on to announce that she is expecting a baby with her husband, Prince Harry, has completed a royal tour of Oceania, and is preparing for her first Christmas as an official part of the royal family. What she has not done, however, is contact her father.

This morning, Markle appeared on Good Morning Britain in order to complain that she had shut him out of her life.

"I've been ghosted," he said. "I'm not sure why it's happening. I love my daughter very much. I wish she would reach out, send me a text, anything. There has to be a place for me. I'm her father."

Markle explained that the last time he spoke to Meghan was on the eve of her wedding day, and, since then, he's sent her various text messages and letters - but she never replies. When asked why he thinks his daughter has this attitude towards him, Markle replied: "She has always been a very controlling person and that is part of her nature - but she has never been rude. She has always been in charge."

He even defended her when GMB host, Piers Morgan, made a negative comment about the duchess.

"She's always been very polite to everyone, never been rude to anyone. I don't know what's really happening right now. My daughter lived with me from the age of 11 all through middle school and high school until she went off to college. We're very close. What's happened, I'm not sure. I'd love to talk about it. I think it comes back to the fact that reporters pick up on interviews I've done and write their own stories and tell lies."

Still, Markle (who has never met his son-in-law, Prince Harry) says that he has hope for the future, and will not stop reaching out until he has a response.

"I don't plan to be silent for the rest of my life. I love my daughter very much and she has to know that, and I would really appreciate if she would call me, just reach out to me. There has to be a place for me. I'm here, she knows it ... I need her to reach back to me," he said.

He is also very excited about the arrival of his new grandchild, and obviously wants to have the chance to meet the little one.

"I'm certainly hoping that everything goes well that they produce a beautiful baby. I hope I'll get to see a little Meghan or a little Harry."

Meghan has not given a specific reason for the lack of communication with her father, but it must be noted that she has not had the greatest support from that side of her family in recent months. Her sister, Samantha, has frequently taken to the press and social media in order to drag Meghan's name through the mud, and her brother, Thomas Jr., even went so far as to write an open letter to Prince Harry before the wedding, in which he asked him to reconsider marrying the former suits star.

Whether or not Meghan will respond to this latest plea from her father remains to be seen, but - if the past six months are anything to go by - it seems that she is unlikely to respond.
