Sex appeal - whether it be in the form of real-life flesh, or pixelated appendages - clearly still sells. While figures such as Wonder Women and Lara Croft, (who have recently entered the public consciousness once more) are credited with being enduring symbols of female empowerment, in the male-dominated sphere of action films, the pair stand out as the only two female protagonists in the genre.

Both are strong, brilliant and intelligent women, however, it has to be noted that their faces and bodies embody the male fantasy. Coincidence? I think not. It's evident, though, that in this post #MeToo and Time's Up world that we live in, steps are being taken to ensure that such characters are indicative of society as it stands today. Gal Gadot was extremely outspoken about the realities of filming Wonder Women while pregnant, and fans of the Lara Croft franchise have hit back at a YouTuber who said that Alicia Vikander couldn't play the video game hero on account of her breasts.

It appears that everyone's favourite adventurer, Lara Croft has a new face: Alicia Vikander. With two pistols strapped to her hips, skimpy shorts and a figure-hugging vest, the original Croft was clearly designed to titillate.

And while this was the role that propelled Angelina Jolie into superstardom, Vikander has become a household name in her own right after winning an Oscar for The Danish Girl, and she's now turned her sights to Hollywood blockbusters.

This reprisal is based on the 2013 reboot of the video game, which saw a more realistic take on the character. However, one YouTuber has expressed the unpopular opinion that Vikander couldn't possibly play Lara Croft - because her breasts are "too small".
"Do I have to be the asshole who says her tits are too small for me to see her as Lara Croft? Do I have to be that guy? Do I have to be the one who fucking says it? I guess I do. Sorry," a Twitter and YouTube user who goes by "The Amazing Atheist Guy" wrote.

As you can imagine, this view didn't go down well. The Amazing Atheist Guy's Twitter post went viral, and a whole host of people were there to call him out on his ignorance.

"You also have the option to not be trash," one social media user wrote, while another corroborated "Oh how I love men like you, who take the liberty of commenting and oppressing women's bodies."

"I don't think it's really that important. She is an outstanding actor. It's all that matters," a third person added.

Despite the criticism he received for his initial post, it didn't stop The Amazing Atheist Guy from continuing to comment on Alicia's casting - in fact, he even photoshopped a picture of what he thought Alicia should look like to play Lara Croft.
"People might think Lara Croft's tits are a pointless topic of discussion, but could there be a more pointed topic than these tits?" he wrote.
