This Thursday, the most highly-anticipated movie in this and many a year finally hit cinemas. And wouldn't you know it - it's done pretty well at the box office.

Last year, Avengers: Infinity War scored $641 million by its opening weekend, which was a world record at the time. It is no longer a world record.

Endgame has blown it out of the water, folks - it's already reached the $1 billion mark, and is well on course to be the highest grossing movie of all time, says CNBC. Clocking at over three hours, it's a big watch, but the length of it has been no barrier at all.

"Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have continued to challenge notions of what is possible at the movie theatre both in terms of storytelling and at the box office," said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, in a statement as the news emerged, and he's pretty happy with the numbers in that respect.

"Though Endgame is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie was projected to make around $900 million its opening weekend, but even those generous estimations were blown out of the water. This is all globally, but domestically, the film has generated a sum of $350 million.

No film before this, according to CNBC, had managed to match the insane average of $59,900 per theatre, achieved by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, but Endgame (once again) has blown it out of the water on $75,075.

All in all, folks, Avengers: Endgame is doing very, very well, and as the initial hype gives way to genuine awe, you can expect that number to soar even higher. And those of you who've seen it can say for sure that it's worth every penny.
