Fans have been waiting patiently for about a year and a half for a brand new season of the wildly popular sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror, and now it's finally arrived.

Following last December's release of Bandersnatch, the franchise's ambitious 'Choose Your Own Adventure' film, season 5 will be a little shorter than most of the previous ones. Yes, the show will be making its highly anticipated return with just three new episodes.

"Doing Bandersnatch was like doing several episodes at once," showrunner Charlie Brooker explained to RadioTimes.com, "So in one respect the other season five episodes are more straightforward, though they all come with their own challenges."

"We’d already shot like, one of the episodes of season five before we did Bandersnatch," Brooker said. "At one point we weren’t sure whether we were going to make Bandersnatch part of season five."

"It was Netflix’s suggestion as well: 'let’s do it as its own thing'. As it expanded and got bigger and bigger and bigger it became apparent that the way to do this was to do it as a standalone thing."

The brand new episodes - which include 'Striking Vipers', 'Smithereens' and 'Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too' - were added to Netflix this morning.

This time around, the cast will include a few more famous faces than we are used to. Be prepared to see the likes of Miley Cyrys, Avengers' Anthony Mackie, Aquaman's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Topher Grace from BlacKkKlansman.

Season 5 of Black Mirror, which began in 2011 and was purchased by Netflix in 2016, is now available for your viewing pleasure.
