Dog the Bounty Hunter's wife, Beth Chapman, has been placed in a medically induced coma in Queen’s Medical Center in Hawaii.

The 51-year-old's status was revealed in a statement issued by her family on Saturday.

Beth's health took a turn for the worst when she was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2017. She was subsequently given the all clear before the disease returned last year and spread to her lungs.

Her cancer was described as "incurable" at the end of 2018.

In the statement which was released by Hawaii New Now, the family sent "sincere thanks to everyone for their prayers throughout Beth's battle with cancer."

Beth's husband Duane rose to fame in 2004 with his TV show Dog the Bounty Hunter. It follows the former convict as he hunts down criminals.

Duane was convicted of first-degree murder in 1976 and sentenced to five years behind bars at a Texas prison. However, he only ended up serving 18 months.

The family documented Beth's fight against the illness in a TV special titled, Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives. It followed the couple as Beth underwent a grueling 13-hour surgery to have a stage two tumor removed.

Beth was hospitalized in April with "serious breathing issues" and was placed into a medically induced coma on Saturday.
