The finale of HBO's hit fantasy series a Game of Thrones was one of the biggest television events ever, finally capping off more than eight seasons of plotting, murder, and war. Winter finally after all, but it didn't end the way we expected. Spoilers ahead for those who haven't caught up yet.

The show's big climax came about as a result of the events of the last episode, which led Daenerys Targaryen to brutally slaughter the innocent civilians of King's Landing and butcher almost half the cast of the show, including Jamie and Cersei Lannister. As a result of her erratic and tyrannous behaviour, Jon was forced to murder her, plunging a knife into her chest after embracing her in the throne room of the Red Keep.

It then looked as though Jon was going to then be burned alive by Dany's remaining dragon Drogon. But instead, the gigantic lizard used his firey breath to melt the Iron Throne down into a puddle of molten slag, before grabbing his mother in his talons and flying off. Suffice to say, Drogon's reaction to Dany's death was one of the most emotional scenes of the whole episode, and fans took to Twitter not long after the credits rolled to express their feelings about it all.

Indeed, the details of the very last episode have been kept under tight wraps lately. In fact, one channel has even proposed a social media blackout to help fans stay spoiler-free.
