Game of Thrones is casting two new roles for Season 8
As Game of Thrones marches toward its conclusion in 2019, fans have zeroed in on every little nuance or detail to crack open the finale. In all likelihood, someone out there probably already knows exactly how the show will end. There are only a handful of limited outcomes that would make sense, that the show and the books have spent over 20 years building up to.
But as things reach the eleventh hour, any new characters added to the show are sure to raise eyebrows. After all, who could be important enough to add in literally the final season, just as all the pieces are finally coming together? That's what fans have been asking ever since HBO has reportedly put out a casting call for two new roles. Who are they looking for?
Well, by the descriptions, it seems they're looking for two child actors.
According to top-notch Games of Thrones fan-site Watchers on the Wall, one of the roles is labelled 'Northern Girl'. She needs to have the customary Northern accent, be fearless and a born-soldier, and also between eight and ten years old. She's described as a “very nice stand-out part for a strong-minded young girl with a fighting spirit.”
Sounds a lot like Lyanna Mormont, right? But she's already been casted, so who could it possibly be? Maybe the young Lord of House Mormont has another sister? But that's unlikely. If anything, it appears that we're going to be getting some more flashback scenes.
Could the young 'Northern girl' actually be a young Lyanna Stark? Bran has already visited Ned and Lyanna as children with the Three Eyed-Raven, so it's wholly likely that he'll return for more deep lore about the previous generation of Starks.
A young boy is also sought for a role. An eight-year-old who can “completely own the scenes that he appears in". Could this be the young Ned Stark? Or perhaps there won't be flashbacks at all. Maybe this young boy and girl will be the young Lords of a Northern house we've yet to meet. Could two Northern children be leading armies in defense of their homeland? That would be incredibly badass.
But they'd have to be introduced to the series rapidly. Maybe they'll be escaping a Northern house's castle as it gets destroyed by White Walkers, or something like that. They could escape the destruction and warn Jon Snow of what is coming. I could see something like that.
However, it seems the young boy is described as coming from a 'poor background'. Could a royal girl and a poor boy meet and fight off the White Walkers? Or is it someone in King's Landing, maybe even an unknown surviving one of Robert Baratheon's bastard children?
Way back in Season 2, all of House Baratheon's heirs were slaughtered by the crown. But Gendry Baratheon survived, and it's more than possible that another heir survived as well. Perhaps the series will end with the ambiguity of this boy, Robert's surviving heir, who could even drive a sequel series to Game of Thrones? Would he challenge Daenerys Targaryen?
We'll have to wait and see in 2019.
