As modern American soap operas go, The O.C. is right up there for me. I mean, if renegade girl-next-door Marissa Cooper (played by the drop dead gorgeous Mischa Barton) wasn't your dream girl growing up, then there is something seriously wrong with you. I joke of course, but she was pretty much the one.

A heady cocktail of teen angst, young lust, extramarital affairs and opulent wealth - the show's plot followed the Cohen, Cooper and Nichol families as they struggled to maintain relative normality in stunning Newport Beach. We start the show with perennial bad boy Ryan being taken in by well-to-do lawyer Sandy and his wife Kirsten. Through Ryan's adjustment to his new surroundings we get to see how the other half live. Crazy parties, underage drinking, gorgeous cheerleaders and an amazing setting made The O.C. one of the best shows on TV in the early noughties.

Sadly though, it has been 15 years since the show first aired! Now I'm showing my age here, but the first episode aired on August 5th 2003 - and I remember it like it was yesterday. Sitting down for the first time to listen to Phantom Planet's classic theme tune, it was clear that The O.C. was going to be one hell of a ride.

But has time been good to the cast? Or have all those dramatic years in Newport Beach made them old before their time?

1. Sandy Cohen - played by Peter Gallagher 2. Seth Cohen - played by Adam Brody 3. Jimmy Cooper - played by Tate Donovan 4. Kirsten Cohen - played by Kelly Rowan 5. Julie Cooper - played by Melinda Clarke 6. Ryan Atwood - played by Ben McKenzie 7. Summer Roberts - played by Rachel Bilson 8. Marissa Cooper - played by Mischa Barton

One of the things that made The O.C. such a big part of so many childhoods was the fantastic character arcs.

Who can forget Julie's transformation from ultimate Newport Beach villain to a single mother embarking on an undergraduate degree? Kirsten's descent into alcoholism and rehabilitation was a massive part of the show, while Summer went from plain annoying to one of the show's most-loved characters across four seasons.

Whether you were more of a Marissa person than a Summer person, or related more to the brooding Ryan than the classically geeky Seth - The O.C. had something for everyone growing up, and it's great to see the cast still looking healthy and happy 15 years on.

Come on FOX, give us one more season already!
