After what feels like an age to fans of the show, Game of Thrones is set to make its highly-anticipated return on April 14, 2019. Considering the previous season concluded in August 2017, the series will have been absent from our screens just four months shy of two years by the time season eight airs.

When this season ends, however, it will be absent forever, as it will be the HBO series' final season.

But Game of Thrones fans did have something else to get excited about yesterday. Indeed, Jon Snow himself, actor Kit Harington, made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote the upcoming final season.

Stephen Colbert kicked off the interview, remarking on how little the Game of Thrones cast can actually say about the new season while promoting it. And while Harington agreed that he couldn't give anything away, he did reveal something pretty heartwarming about one of his last few table reads.

"We had a table read through and I was the only one who hadn't read the episode," he recalled. "I think I told everyone I didn't want to know what happened, but really it was just laziness. The writers used me as a litmus test to see my reaction to things as the events unfolded, and they got some pretty good reactions."

Not only was Harington entertained by what he was reading but it also made him very emotional. Check out the video above to see just how uncharacteristically Jon Snow reacted to the final series.

And regarding the climactic events in the final series, Harrington revealed just how far off his personal hunches were:

"I had my theories. I had theories all along, and all of them were wrong. I'm quite glad I never told anyone. [Rose Leslie] has guessed every single possible outcome bar the one that actually happens."

With the teaser trailer to season eight being released just yesterday, the show's very devoted fanbase were provided with a much-needed taste of what to expect when the fantasy drama finally returns next month. Check out the trailer below:
